Minors are awarded at the time of graduation from NC State and may not
be awarded after a student has received the associated degree at NC State
except in those cases in which a student continues enrollment for a second
or third undergraduate degree. In this case the minor may be awarded
at the same time as the subsequent degree. Certification of a minor
will not be posted on the transcript until the graduation requirements
for the major have been completed and posted.
STEPS FOR CERTIFICATION OF A MINOR
1. The Application for Minor may be submitted to the minor department or program at any time prior to the registration period for the student's final semester. After consultation on a plan of work with an adviser assigned by the department or program offering the minor, the student completes the application form and submits it for approval by the department or program offering the minor. The department or program granting the minor has the responsibility for determining whether courses which have been transferred from other institutions qualify in meeting requirements for the minor.
2. After approval by the department or program offering the minor, that department or program holds the application form until all courses in the minor, except those to be taken in the student's final semester, have been completed. The courses to be taken during the student's final semester (including grades required) to complete the requirements for the minor shall be listed on the form. The form shall then be signed by the student, the minor adviser, and the administrative head of the department or program offering the minor.
3. Prior to the end of the first two weeks of the student's semester of graduation, copies of the approved Application for Minor shall be forwarded to (a) the student's major department and (b) the dean's office of the college in which the student is completing the requirements for a major.
4. The approved Application for Minor will be attached by the major department to the Application for Degree card and forwarded to the dean's office and ultimately to the Department of Registration and Records.
5. During the period in which seniors are cleared for graduation, students will be cleared by the dean's office of the major department for the major requirements and the minor requirements based on the courses and grades required to be taken during the student's final semester as listed on the Application for Minor.
Upon certification to the Department of Registration and Records by
the college dean's office, a statement that the student has "Completed
requirements for a minor in . . ." will be added to the note section of
the student's transcript.
