9-8 COUNSELING CENTER
The Counseling Center provides services to enable individuals to understand
themselves and deal effectively with their environment. Psychologists,
counselors, and psychiatrists are available to evaluate and help students
in all areas of personal concern including: academic and career decision-making
and planning; dealing with educational difficulties; developing satisfying
relationships; working to change self-defeating behaviors (drug and alcohol
abuse, eating disorders); and coping with stress or emotional crises.
In addition to one-to-one counseling for individuals and couples, workshops
are offered throughout the year on topics such as vocational exploration,
test anxiety reduction, and stress management. Faculty and staff
seminars on counseling related issues may be arranged by request.
Counseling services are available to enrolled students without cost
except for a minor materials cost for career testing. Appointments
are available on a limited basis, and a counselor is on call 24 hours a
day through Student Health Service.
Faculty are encouraged to contact the Center if they have concerns about
a student. All counseling is strictly confidential.
