North Carolina State University Handbook for Advising and Teaching

10-1.5.3  COMMITTEES DEVOTED TO TEACHING IMPROVEMENT

The University Teaching Effectiveness and Evaluation Committee is appointed by the Chancellor each academic year.  Faculty members are selected on the basis of expressed interest and to represent the academic colleges and the School of Design.  Graduate and undergraduate students are also appointed.  The Committee is advisory to the Provost and has among its charges to examine the effectiveness of current techniques of faculty evaluation and the procedure and value of choosing Outstanding Teachers, so as to
a) help instructors improve the effectiveness of their teaching;
b) stimulate students' thinking about their educational objectives, and
c) provide a factor in salary, tenure and promotion decisions.

Teaching Improvement Committees operate in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Engineering, Forest Resources, Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and Textiles, and the School of Design.
