
Railroad chalk is large chalk that makes bright and easy-to-see marks on standard chalk boards that can be seen by some students who have reduced vision. Responsibilities are as follows:
Instructor
- The DSO will request that your course be assigned to a room with a chalk board.
- Request in advance that your academic department office purchase a supply of railroad chalk. Your department can purchase railroad chalk from Dillon Supply Company or other vendors.
- Make sure that the board is always clean to allow for the greatest visibility and contrast.
- Write legibly. Make sure that the material on the board is large and clear.
- Report any board problems to the Classroom Hotline at 515-1555 for University classrooms; the departmental office for other rooms; and to Cheryl Branker, Associate Vice Provost and ADA Coordinator.
Student
- Obtain additional chalk from the DSO and bring to classes as a back-up only.
DSO
- Inform Classroom Hotline for University classrooms; the departmental office for other rooms; and Cheryl Branker, Associate Vice Provost and ADA Coordinator, of need for chalk boards in the classroom.
