Readmission Options for Suspended Students

Please Note: All appeal packets for students appealing academic suspension for Spring 2015 readmission are due by October 15th at 5 p.m.

Please note: Suspended students may only take Distance Education courses, and they must have the approval of their advisor in order to enroll.

If a suspended student wishes to appeal their status, they must appeal to the Admissions Committee. The deadline for appeals for the Spring semester is 5 p.m. on October 15th or at 5 p.m. on the next available business day, if the 15th falls on a weekend.

  1. For ALL Suspended Students:

Students serving suspension for academic reasons are eligible to take courses via Distance Education and courses during the summer terms in order to improve their cumulative GPA. If a student raises his or her GPA to the minimum required GPA, the student will be automatically eligible for readmission. A student wishing to take Distance Education courses must submit the Advisor Authorization Form and can find more information on the Distance Education website.

Students with at least 12 credit hours of NC State coursework suspended for a cumulative GPA of less than 1.0 will be suspended and required to take a break in enrollment for one regular semester and will not be permitted to take additional courses (including distance education courses, summer school courses and independent study courses) offered by NC State prior to or during that break.
  2. For Students On Their FIRST Suspension:

Any student receiving a first notice of suspension must serve a minimum one-semester break. Distance Education courses and summer terms do not count for the purposes of determining whether a student has served the minimum one-semester break. After the end of the required break, a student may petition the Undergraduate Admissions Committee for readmission. Please follow the Readmission Checklist for Committee Appeal when compiling materials to submit for the appeal. Unless all documents are included, the appeal will not be heard
  3. For Students On Their Second Suspension:

Any student receiving a second notice of suspension must serve a minimum two-semester break. Distance Education courses and summer terms do not count for the purposes of determining whether a student has served the minimum two-semester break. After the end of the required break, a student may petition the Undergraduate Admissions Committee for readmission. Please follow the Readmission Checklist for Committee Appeal when compiling materials to submit for the appeal. Unless all documents are included, the appeal will not be heard.
  4. For Students Who Were Suspended 3+ Years Ago:

After a three-year period of not being enrolled at NC State with the exclusion of summer term courses, Distance Education, and Independent Studies, a suspended student may apply for Contractual Readmission. Please follow the Checklist for Contractual Readmission when compiling materials to submit for the appeal. Unless all documents are included, the appeal for contractual readmission will not be heard.

If you have any questions regarding the appeals process or any documents for submission, please contact the Readmission Coordinator at 919-515-2572.
