Alumni Association Outstanding Research Awards
In recognition of the importance of research as an integral function of NC State, the North Carolina State Alumni Association makes three awards each year for outstanding research achievements. The awards are in the amount of $4,000 each, in addition to recognition as a distinguished NC State research person. The awards will be announced each year at the spring commencement.
All faculty members who are associate members or full members of the NC State graduate faculty are eligible for nomination. There are no age requirements, however, recipients must have been appointed to their positions at NC State for more than one year.
The period for evaluation of achievements is from July 1 through June 30 of each academic year. Nominees will be evaluated with respect to their contributions during the period, though it is recognized that a year of outstanding achievement may be the culmination of several years of activity. (A person can win more than one year; however, not more than once in a 10-year period.)
Nominations should contain:
- a cover letter detailing the justification for the nomination,
- a complete vita including an Executive Summary, and
- at least five letters of reference, three of which may not be associated with the University.
In the special case of books, those published within three years of nomination can be considered in the evaluation process.
Nominations from the faculty are submitted to the appropriate college/school dean who will appoint a screening committee to select no more than two nominations for submission to the Search Committee.
The University Selection Committee, which will consist of the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Economic Development; the Chairman of the University Research Committee; one representative each of the Faculty Senate and the Graduate School; and the recipients of the award from last year. This committee will recommend award recipients to the NC State Alumni Association.
Nominations for these awards (one original) should be submitted electronically by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Nominations should only be submitted by college/school deans.
