Licensure Portability Special Initiative

Purpose:  To provide support for State professional licensing boards to carry out programs under which licensing boards of various States cooperate to develop and implement State policies that will reduce statutory and regulatory barriers to telemedicine. 

Budget:  Estimated amount available: $1.5 million; estimated number of awards

Health Information Technology Extension Program: Regional Centers 

Purpose:  To furnish assistance, defined as education, outreach, and technical assistance, to help providers in their geographic service areas select, successfully implement, and meaningfully use certified EHR technology to
improve the quality and value of health care. Regional Centers will also help providers achieve, through appropriate available infrastructures, exchange of health information in compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory requirements, and patient preferences.

Budget:  Cycle 1 (expired), $189 million; Cycle 2 (preliminary application due Dec. 22), $225 million; Cycle 3 (preliminary application due June 1, 2010, $184 million
