Outlook XP comes bundled with Microsoft Office XP. These instructions
assume that you are using Outlook XP for Windows XP.
The configuration may be slightly different for other versions of
Outlook.
In the "Tools" menu, select "EMail Accounts." This
will start a wizard which will guide you through the process of
setting up Outlook XP account to handle your IMAP email. Note: If
you have never started Outlook XP before the wizard may start automatically
when you first run the program. Select "Add a new e-mail account"
and click "Next."
Choose "IMAP"
and then click "Next."
Type in the information
Outlook XP asks for. This includes your name, email address, your
Unity logon ID and password, and the incoming and outgoing mail
servers. Your incoming mail server will be [unityid].mail.ncsu.edu.
Your outgoing mail server depends on where the computer you are setting up is physically located:
- ResNet-connected computers in NC State residence halls or on-campus chapter houses: use smtp-resnet.ncsu.edu
- Computers in other on-campus buildings: use smtp.ncsu.edu
- Computers in University Towers: use relay-mail.paetec.net
- Computers located off-campus: use your ISPs outgoing mail server
Click "Next."
If you wish to use authenticated SMTP, click on the "More Settings..." button. Otherwise, proceed to step 6.
Enter a name you wish to use for this email account. This name is for your use only and won't appear anywhere, but you have to enter something.

Click on the "Outgoing Server" tab at the top. Then check the box labeled "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." At NC State University, you use the same settings as your incoming mail server, so you don't have to do anything else. Just click "OK" and you will be returned to the screen you saw in step 3.
Click "Finish" to close the wizard. At this point, you
are ready to use Outlook XP as your email client.
