Other comments from question 19:
"What features would you like to see made available on ResNet?"
- 100 base T connections, more t3's to keep lag down during the day
- 100baseT bandwidth, FrontPage server extensions on www4 or another student accessible web server.
- 100-Base-TX Service (Would Be Willing To Pay A Small Amount Extra For)
- A server running Linux and Samba and afs that would enable clients to nfs or samba mount their afs home directory.
- A web server program supported by the university with support available... NO MICROSOFT STUFF
- ability to connect off campus
- Ability to print network documents (eg. Crisp text file) to local printer (HP attatched to local machine)
- Ability To Print To Local Printer In Home Through X Windows Login
- ability to run AutoCAD through eXceed
- Ability to use graphical Unix programs through ResNet connections
- Allowing access to my PC from my unity/eos account!!!!!! (PLEASE, it's not difficult)
- Autocad Engineering software packages
- Be able to print in your room without having to FTP file over.
- Be able to use your printer as a network printer. ie: printing Xtracs to my room instead of Tucker or somewhere else
- BeOS compatible networks
- Better usenet - binary article counts, speed, retension.. are pitiful on news.ncsu.edu Already pay Supernews a good bit for no more usenet than I use, but I'm sure an extra buck or two from ResNet subscribers could be utilized to set up additional news servers/routers to reduce the burdon on nntp-xfer from the some 10 gig daily newsfeed.
- CD rom writers -- would use at an extra charge
- Chat Rooms
- Experimental "crash test dummy" servers on the network: ones that I can log into and experiment on (and crash) without you guys getting all pissed off about it.
- extra disk space
- FAX CAPABILITY!!!!!
- have exact same access as Unity lab computers
- Have Maple through ResNet in your room!
- High-speed (56k, dual ISDN, 1MegModem) ResNet dialups for off-campus housing.
- how about extending the ResNet to students in apartments off campus?
- I already have access to applications found on Unity labs with a unix emulator
- I am already able to use applications available in unity labs
- I think having a direct connection to the unity lab will benefit great for me.
- I would like to be able to print out documents on my personal printer in my room.
- I would like to have access to a cd burner, where I buy a cd and they burn it so I can save room on my hard drive.
- I would love to print X-Tracs from my own personal printer
- In "d", I would really like to use Xtracs from my room, but I haven't been able to yet. A more user-friendly email program, similar to that in the labs, would be nice for my computer. I have to use the ancient zmail program through Telnet. My roommate got Z-mail for his Macintosh, but I was told no such program existed for Windows 95.
- More space for classes... (Pro-Engineer without exhuasted quota)
- pay extra only on the specific printing job(ie would not be willing to pay extra on the overall cost of ResNet, but instead pay as needed) and more reliable servers
- perhaps zephyer or be able to open files from editors on my regular account
- print files from my Unity account (like NeXS or Maple files) on my computer in my room
- printing from unity apps to my personal printer.
- Probably use my home directory if could mount via NFS so I would not have to load AFS on my machine.
- ResNet service same as a unity lab
- short courses on software, creating a web page, maximizing use of ResNet
- Software to connect the Mac Network (AppleTalk) with the PC's
- Would be willing to pay a small amount for the above, but very small amount
- would like to have advanced hardware accesable in computer labs, cd burners or audio/visual equipment
- Would like zephyr or xnol for windows setup so that communicating between ResNet and the labs could be transparent. hate zwgc -ttymode.
- would use if available at no extra charge
