These are not edited nor in any particular order.

  1. Very reliable except local offcampus connections go down from time to time. My main reason for moving into Bragaw.

  2. I like ResNet, It is so much better than dialing a slow modem. This summer I don't know what I will do without the fast connection

  3. I've been happy this semester with the ResNet service's speed. It is a big improvement from the speed of last year.

  4. I am in the engineering program and was concerned why the engineers had to pay the COE fee for using the computer labs and still had to pay the ResNet fee for in room connection. The ResNet connection greatly cut down the need for going to the computer labs but I still had to pay both fees.

  5. I didn't realize that I have access to my homepage through my ResNet account. How can I learn more about that?

  6. What is the possibility of upgrading to 100mps?

  7. My experience with trying to get ResNet was over all horrible. I bought the care from the NCSU bookstore from very rude people who didn't know what they were talking about. I tried install the card, but it didn't work. It never worked. It took someone at Hardware services (I think- or whoever deals with it) about five visits and many more canceled appointments to figure out that I had a defective card and it was too late to return the card. I was very dissapointed with the whole experience.

  8. It is terrific! I did not have the access to the net before I came to NCSU, but now, I don't know how I would have gotten through some of my classes without it!

  9. i haven't had much luck with up loading and down loading files on to the campus severs, and being able to view myself on the network.

  10. I really would like to be able to access some applications from my ResNet hookup like those in the computer labs. I would find it helpful to be able to launch MAPLE and XTracs from my computer in the room.

  11. ResNet is one thing i ALWAYS tell incoming students about!! It has been essential to my success here at NC State. I only wish i could have it at home! My only complaint about ResNet is that I will now hate dial-ups for the rest of my life!!! Unfortunatley I have to use them everywhere else and I get impatient!! I do not know how i will manage this summer without spneding hours using the internet.

  12. Email and news servers' addresses were not included in the original documentation. I got them from a classmate. I later noticed them in one of the faqs. It wasn't easy to find.

  13. ResNet is a very valuable resource to have, without it I don't know how I would've managed to keep up with all the announcements from my CSC classes. I believe that every dorm on campus should have ResNet access just because it is so useful.

  14. It would be nice to have ability to hook up multiple computers to one connection (they would split the bandwidth) so I could have a web server on a 486 running Linux and my personal computer running Win95 at the same time. Mainly, I just want to experiment with another operating system on the network without having to diconnect my main computer which I REALLY need to stay connected. Can this be done now?

  15. I LOVE ResNet!!!

  16. very nice, i'll miss it next year

  17. ResNet has been very convenient for me to receive my email in my room. I very seldom need to use the computer labs.

  18. I have found RES-Net helpful because I have imediate access. I do not have to go out in the rain or late at night. It is an added exspense that I can justify.

  19. It would be nice to have more support on the web page for odd systems (e.g., DOS). On the other hand, I'm guessing that you expect us to figure it out on our own, since we know how to use a computer... :)

  20. Other than the many (>60) hours I spent first semester getting my NE2000 compatible IBM ethernet card working on your network, I've had good success with ResNet (although it is often very slow in Sullivan).

  21. I love the connection, there's no doubt about it; but i'm not naive enough to believe that my GPA wouldn't be significantly higher had i not had it :)

  22. Since almost all classes now require accessing web pages and since it's sometimes difficult to find an open computer in the labs, the ResNet service is almost a necessity. I feel that the ResNet service should therefore be covered by the computer fee assessed at the beginning of each semester, and not another $80 on top of that charge.

  23. it took the telecommunication office over a month to get my request for ResNet to the ResNet people.

  24. The sooner you guys get ResNet wired throughout the university, the better. I got assigned to Lee Hall next year as an RA, and the main reason I don't want to leave Sullivan is because Lee doesn't have ResNet.

  25. i like being on a system where the computer and the phone can be used simultasneuosly

  26. I had never thought about it before this, but it would be really nice to have scanning available to us.

  27. I would like to ResNet extend its services to local apartment complexes surrounding the campus

  28. ResNet is cool

  29. I think it is one of the best services that NCSU has to offer. The ability to access software from the UNITY servers would be a nice addition. Otherwise, I find RESNET to be extremely fast and reliable.

  30. I like it a lot, but I hate it when there are so many people on that it slows down everything. One drawback is, is that it spoils you so when you go back to a modem, it all seems so freegin slow.

  31. I would love to have the ability to use Unix programs with a graphical user interface over my ResNet connection. This would avoid some of the overcrowding in the computer labs, cut down on late night trips across capmus and would be worth paying extra for.

  32. Excellent service!! I just wish I could maintain my unity account from my room or be able to run the same programs that they can run in a lab.

  33. Having ResNet in my room has improved my time management. I no longer have to walk to the computer labs to submit online homework, or email. It is a great aid for me in completing my school work.

  34. ResNet has lots of advantages, it gives me news when I need it, weather when I need it... allows me to talk to my mom and stepfather and my girlfriend. It's good stuff. except when the net is congested. it gets sluggish at times and you have to wait for it to get unclogged, maybe if it were 100 baseT it would move a little faster. As far as it interfering with my studies, what ResNet gives has to be learned how to control, you can't help it that I have bad study skills and am in need of a time management course. I don't think that the questions about how much time and whether or not ResNet interferes with schoolwork should even be on this survey. regardless ResNet is good for people and should be used by everyone.

  35. I have a definite preference for OS/2, but no one here could help me with getting ResNET to work with it. Everyone was willing to help, but no one had any experience and knowledge was very limited. I would still like to go back to OS/2, but will not consider it so long as it will present problems with using ResNET efficiently.

  36. I would realy like to be able to run Linux and full EOS/UNITY access as an enhanced client. I've heard that software to do this will be available next semester. If you guys have any more information about it please let me know.

  37. I really appreciate and enjoy all of the services provided by ResNet, but I think that the cost is too high. I might not suscribe if the price were to go up again.

  38. ResNet is great! The only problem that I have had is that when i changed rooms this semester, Communications did not have ResNet set up in my new room. I sent the request in Nov. This was not a problem with ResNet, but the communications staff.

  39. I think ResNet has been helpful to me academically. Only thing bad about it is it is a little expensive, and it took them 2 weeks to give me ResNet access when I signed for it the first day of school. Cheers.

  40. The only problem that I had with ResNet this year is that it takes you all way too long to hook people up if they do not subscribe during the summertime. I had to wait a month, and had no partial refund for the time I did not receive it, which I think you should take into account. If somebody signs up on the first day of school and does not receive a live connection until a month later, at least $15 should be refunded for the time lost.

  41. network is overloaded. this causes minor problems/anoyances with lost/never made connections. instaltion of network connections hinders location of furnature placement in room. network service is unreliable. connections drop durring power failure. service was better when we (students) had control of our service. we could fix problems when they occured. installed ups to prevent network outage durring (common) power failures. we could also enforce network use/abuse policy without outside help.

  42. All I want to say here is please don't raise the price too much. I can't live here without ResNet, so you guys have to make sure I can still afford it.

  43. 100mbit ethernet now!

  44. I think you need to add some information on the connecting page for the pop and smtp server names, took me a while to find the information.

  45. Should allow for unix connections to ResNet and sharing of school resources as if it were a machine from a lab.

  46. Should set up a zephyr or xnol program for windows to make messaging between labs and room computers transparent.

  47. I am a Computer Engineering major and without ResNet -- I feel I would have lived in the Computer Labs -- They give me headaches -- I have much enjoyed being able to stay in my room and work on everything I need. I use ResNet for every class I am taking this semester.

  48. ResNet is an excellent service to have in dorm rooms, but the cost of ResNet is expensive.

  49. It would be nice if you guys distributed an X client, and allowed us to connect to X servers.

  50. I really enjoy my ResNet connection, it's the reason I have stayed on campus until now, and will until I graduate. It is a very strong tool for studies and communications with people here and all over the country/world. I highly recommend it to whoever asks.

  51. The only problem I had was setting up the pop-in email at first . It would also be nice if room mates could set up their mail in this room.

  52. The downloading time in the middle of the night is fantastic! I pulled a 6.12 meg file in 35 seconds!

  53. There needs to be a more aggresive effort to help those who request it.

  54. I feel the ResNet service here is excelent. The computer resources here at state were one of the main reasons I came to NCSU.

  55. I thoroughly enjoy my ResNet connection and would not be without it. It was a major reason to live on campus again next year.

  56. I feel the price is a little steep; however, the ResNet staff has been very helpful.

  57. There needs to be a little more documentation (i.e. a very descriptive webpage or something) that tells all the things you can do with ResNet. I know of several options available, but I don't feel that I'm getting everything out of ResNet that it has to offer.

  58. Are there going to be any Rhapsody servers when Apple releases it? I'm sure the university could work a test-site deal with Apple. :-)

  59. The connect we have is decent, but during prime time the speeds can and will get a slow as modem speeds; sometimes slower. ResNet needs more outging t3 lines to keep the speeds up at all times. Otherwise its no better than a 56k modem. Thanks

  60. RESNET is a blessing and a curse at the same time. I can easily do email and web browsing but it's hard sometimes to stay away from the online chat. I know that I have wasted a lot of time sitting at this computer when I know that I should have been studying.

  61. The problem is that it takes two weeks to get it turned on in the fraternity house. And for multiple weeks this semester it has been so slow that I couldn't even check my email. It should be turned on before I get here if I have already payed for it. And the system should run consistently fast.

  62. My decision to live on campus (I am a grad student age 27) was influenced greatly by the availability of ResNet. It's great to be able to do library research from home.

  63. ResNet is already pretty good, but direct access to Unity files and programs would make it perfect.

  64. I hope I win a prize!

  65. Setup assistance was great this year.

  66. aaack, I play Quake2 way to much :(

  67. ResNet overall is good. The starting info provided at least when I first came to NCSU is insufficient for the average user.

  68. I have enjoyed the instant access to my Emial and other applications such as ICQ. It has been very valuable in letting me keep in touch with friends and family

  69. When I switched rooms, it was a pain to get ResNet access in my new room. Turns out later though that my ResNet socket was loose (can I get that replaced?) and that I needed a new wire. The staff who came by to (in person would you believe?) check up on me! I was impressed to say the least. I love ResNet and plan to continue using it until I graduate or get kicked out.

  70. It rocks.
