Dining hall menu app and a NCSU events calendar app.
I was not aware of the mobile services. It would have been helpful to know about that since I don't always carry around a computer. I'm kind of frustrated now knowing that this exists when it could have helped me out half a million times this semester. I'd like to also add that I can't seem to figure out how to access my NCSU emails from my phone. I have the new NCSU-Gmail account, but I can't seem to get the emails to appear on my phone like my other email addresses. This would help me out very much because I don't enjoy logging on to my computer every 12 hours or so to find what's been sent to me.

EB1 and EB2 have bad coverage in spots (especially "inner" classrooms). I can't really think of any other places off the top of my head with spotty reception.
very weak signal on the first floor (not ground floor) of the library
Do you have any questions, comments, or suggestions about ResNet, the Office of Information Technology, or any of the questions on this survey? (n=311)
Why do I still have trouble connecting my router to the Internet? It says my session is full but it is not.

why would you make TV mandatory for those living in residence halls? I see this as a potentially bad thing, but also as a unnecessary expenditure because I don't know of many people that would want to watch TV. I also feel that there is enough mandatory expenditures already without adding any additional ones.
Resnet is awesome!! Keep up the good work. Also, any plans to update to wireless-N for wireless around campus?
Why can't I split cable bill with a roommate anymore?
Work on cable prices. I understand this is difficult because cable providers are sticklers, but I know many students including myself that would get cable if it were more affordable and I know of other universities where the cable is MUCH cheaper than it is here. The full scale cable tv over the ResNet service would work just fine as well.

Generally, I feel ResNet does a good job with providing internet access to the campus.
I hate that you can't download music for free

Please improve the wireless network quality in the D.H. Hill Library Commons; the wireless there is very nearly unusable. I've found that manually selecting an AP with a lower signal strength improves my network speed because it's not the AP everyone's laptop autoconnects to. This is inconvenient, though.
For the second year in a row, I refused to pay for the cable service because there was no addition of HD channels, so I chose to simply use an antenna to get free TV through the air.
This is just normal for networks but try to improve consistency in access speed, as sometimes I have a recorded test speed of almost 100 Mbps, and I have also had recorded test speeds of not even 1Mbps. I would also add a few more routers in large classrooms and in Engineering classes that require network access, as one last semester we all (~30) had to reach one website through a single router... that was slow going.

Cable is way too expensive!
The service is good, but the only thing is that i am able to use wireless network inside the dorm without the router.
Wireless in individual rooms in the residence halls is not as good as in the lounge areas.

The speed of the internet is great.
It would be much better if we had wireless internet in the residence hall rooms and also podcasts of lectures for easier access. Offer more services at a better rate. But I am currently satisfied with the services.
The wireless connection in the library is really crappy, and there aren't enough computers connected directly to make up for this. Sometimes I end up having to leave the library because I am unable to get a connection on the computers the library rents out.
I believe Unity labs need more Mac computers available to students. I realize PCs (Windows and Linux) are more popular with students (and therefore PCs should outnumber Macs but a little) but the current ratio deficient is too high. It is impossible to find an open Mac during the day at the library.
I would like the possibility to have a gigabit connection in my dorm room. I would be willing to pay more for this service.
nope
If its possible, could you provide HD channels.
I am really interested in the availability of television service through our computers
Please get MASN. There are alot of Baltimore Orioles, like myself, and Washington Nationals fans who can't watch our teams play because it's blacked out in this area except for on MASN.

Cable service is WAY to expensive for the fiscally conservative individual. In the age of free hulu and $9 a month netflix subscriptions, I have a hard time believing that cable service near $50 a month is going to be worth it for most people. Perhaps a reduced price and channel count package could be offered for those interested in having the basic lineup, without breaking the bank on basic entertainment.
The wireless internet works so poorly in North Hall that I had to go out and buy a cord. That worked fine but the cord was constantly in the way so I had to buy a wireless router. THE INTERNET CONNECTION STINKS. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!

I wish the wireless connection in the honors quad is better. The connection is always very weak and it is almost impossible to connect to the internet without an ethernet cable sometimes.
I want to watch soccer!
When taking this survey without stopping, the session timed out, and I had to start over again. Don't know how or why it happened but was frustrating.
Please have wireless connections in residence halls!
:) good job overall
We need HD service. The cable quality looks really bad on new TV's. I know you guys are thinking about moving to IPTV but do it right the first time and let us have good picture. Also fix the quality issues on all the university channels. They just look horrible. WolfBytes and WolfTV are the number one channels I am talking about. They are being wasted looking like they are. WolfBytes in the gym is a wasted channel. I'm tired of seeing games from 2 years ago. If your not going to do anything new on that channel just get rid of it. Do it 100% or don't do it at all.

Get cable for all dorms. Better quality wi-fi on edge of campus, more routers in library lobby, better AT&T coverage on campus
I think options to use things such as podcasts, etc should be better advertised and made known to the students
I can't connect any ncsu router from my room (Metcaf).
Other than the connection going out every know and then, it was okay. I had to buy three ethernet cords over the school year. I think it was something wrong with the box in my room.
I really like the fact that I have a place to take my computer problems that fixes them free of charge thank you. Having said that I would like to see quicker internet on the nomad system.
Overall, very good internet connections with minimal problems.

I like the quality of internet provided by ResNet, but I am very annoyed when it forces me to reauthorize because this can be a very difficult process on a few of my machines.
The wireless internet in the library is extremely slow. So slow that I've missed assignment deadline submissions waiting for it to upload a document for me. It is like this during weeknights which is when I'm most available to work on homework. It's a big problem.

Please update NC State's linux computers. Get a larger development team for it (Ask the students of the CSC department!). Those things are so out of date. If my suggestion would be to go to RedHat and ask them for help. I understand there is some things you need to change to standard linux distributions to be compatible with NC State stuff (in my opinion, that's because your stuff is crap), but I believe that it would be better that instead of changing RedHat's shit to work for you, you should create a local NC State software repository that can be installed onto linux systems and it would be a matter of updating the systems with the software in your repository. Then instead of working from scratch when trying to update your linux stuff, all you have to do is update the repository and run an upgrade on all your systems. That way you can keep up with the most recent linux kernels and software. By the way, some of your linux computers can't support their monitor's native resolution, which kinda screws me up sometimes. And for your Windows systems in your computer labs, I find them to be EXTREMELY slow. I would assume because of (once again) your NC State software. You know what this means? It means your software is not very efficient. You need to optimize it! it takes 5 minutes to load up windows! It's like you're creating a new "temporary" user every time i load it up! You need to fix it, or update it or something. I've been here for 4 years and it's just as slow as it was when you had the old computers! And by the way, it was better back then too because i had access to ALL NC State software (including stuff like Photoshop CS3), now it's all gone. Lets just say, I dread every time I have to use your lab computers. Surprisingly though, your Mac computers run just fine! Imagine that! Next up. Your wireless in DH Hill Library. Okay, I don't understand what you guys are thinking here. You are servicing between 1000 to 5000 students, each with their own laptops and iPhones. Yet you only have one router every 100ft. Your routers are COMPLETELY overloaded with at least 100 laptops, each having at least 20 internet connections at once, 70% of which are either audio or video streaming (pandora.com/youtube.com). I tried pinging your routers at one point, and i was getting RTS's of +2000ms half of the time (and the other half, those packets were dropped). You need to either get higher quality routers, or you need to start doubling up the number of routers. for example, room 1231 in EBII has 6 or 8 wireless routers stacked on eachother servicing around 200 seats. You have 1 or 2 routers servicing the same number of students in the Library. Add the number of students using wireless to the people using the computer labs, and that's a LOT of bandwidth. Please do something. As for your resnet stuff, you're doing a good job. there are times when the internet gets a little bogged down at peak hours, but that is normal. Honestly, i do not believe you need to add wireless to residence halls. I find it to be unnecessary since everyone has a high-speed ethernet connection. However, what i WOULD start suggesting, (maybe this is better for the bookstore), but, I would definitely suggest selling wireless routers in the bookstore if you haven't started already. whenever students complain about no wireless in their rooms, just tell them to buy a router at the bookstore. New routers are really easy to set up, and offer decent speeds for everyday use. Only problem is trying to set up more advanced features, that you'll need to train your (stupid) help people on. Yes, i said it, please beware of your help people. They can be kinda dumb at times. I've had friends come to me for computer help because your help people don't know what the problem is. Please make sure your people know how to troubleshoot computer problems and not "reformat your computer" every time they don't know what's wrong. Okay, biggest problem is the new antivirus. At first I was all like, "Yay! No more symantec!" now I kind of want you to go back. Trend office scan is NOT good. over 70% of my computer illiterate friends either don't have any antivirus installed, or is going with one of the other popular antivirus programs, such as AVG. My other computer literate friends completely refuse to use Trend for better antivirus programs. I myself use Comodo. The only people who use Trend are the people too lazy to find something better, or don't know about any better antivirus out there. I don't know if you guys were the ones who set up MyPack Portal, but it's SO SLOW. I don't know who you got the software from or if you wrote it yourself, but you need to find a better solution. I would suggest against java based web applications, and would recommend looking into more professional, efficient apps programmed in C# or something like that. But please, no more 10 second loading times when trying to access my school information. You've been talking about getting TV on the internet for the past 3 years! Where is it? Don't ask the same questions on this survey for 3 years and not do anything about it! That's pretty much it. Bet you're happy
Nope. :)

Wireless in the dorms is a necessity when working on projects with friends. There are only 2 ethernet ports in the rooms. This creates a problem.
I get no wireless ResNet signal in my dorm room at the northeast end of Bragaw. It's rather inconvenient.
i want that ipod! someone stole mine ):
ResNet should not put the cable bill on one person's account. In my situation, my roommate stormed out of my room and when the weekend came around, she took the cable cord and the tv. I am shorted out money because I paid her in cash for this semesters cable. ResNet should put it on separate accounts.

Your website needs work.
I was very angry that Wood hall does not have any Nomad connection. I do not want to have to buy a wireless router and set it up just if I want to check something on my iPod Touch real quick.

Students should be able to split the bill with their roommate any time during the semester if they made a mistake and forgot to split it in the beginning of the semester

We need better wireless connections in the residents halls' room. It is very low signal strength in my room so I have to plug in a cable cord and even that is slow. It is much faster internet connection and better signal strength when I go to a computer lab in the library or FYC. Please have stronger internet signal strength in the resident halls so we can do homework in our rooms and not walk to a computer lab on campus.
Nomad Wireless needs to be available in the residence halls. I am already paying to use the ResNet service so I should be able to get internet in my dorm room without having to use an ethernet cable.
I would really like it if Avent Ferry could have wireless internet in the rooms through ResNet. It would have been very beneficial to me living there because I had to purchase an ethernet cable in order to access the internet. I also had friends come over to study and they were not able to get on the internet without using ethernet because there was no wireless connection or available spots for ethernet. I was very disappointed with this service in my dorm.
The ResNet authentication servers do not seem to be able to handle traffic coming from Wireless Access Points correctly at all (I.E. no router). Wireless devices have to constantly reauthenticate filling new slots in the default maximum of five allowed per NC state user. Having working wireless acess all across campus but not in our dorms is disappointing. Even if we need to supply the Access Points why does authentication fail so bad on resnet authentication but great for Nomad. The bandwidth provided is great, it would be great if you could host domain names again and if at all possible provide dynamically assigned static IPs to users for service applications. With a private file server on the NC State network I have a TB of storage live for use where ever I need but constant network time outs make this hard to work with out a bit of tweaking. Overall I would recommend NC State finish the spotty WIFI grid offered in dorms and spend some time improving the resnet authentication system particularly for use with wireless clients.
FREE CABLE LIKE OTHER SCHOOLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wireless internet should be a priority in residence halls. It's ridiculous that I can get wireless internet everywhere on campus except my dorm room, where I do most of my work.

It would be a great help to have wireless internet access via Unity ID and password verification in the Wolf Village apartments. This would help greatly with study groups and getting homework done with classmates. Not having this has been a great inconvenience, always having to pass the ethernet cord around gets annoying.
Wireless Internet for all residence halls. It was a bit of a haslte trying to do homework in one place the entire time when at Wood since we had to be connected to the resnet cord the entire time.

This survey was too long. And it's stupid that none of the local TV stations air the football or basketball games. That's ridiculous. It should be very easy to find our sports teams on our TVs, but they are never on! Fix that!
The wireless in Watauga Hall is not very good quality and tends to disconnect frequently

Having wireless internet is absolutely great. Other schools, like Appalachian State, require their students to register specific devices to the internet, and they can only have two. I am so glad that State doesn't do this, it's inconvenient. Also, one of the questions talked about requiring cabal services; I think this is a terrible idea. My roommate and I didn't buy cabal this year- and we didn't miss it at all. In fact, if we had had it I think it would have detracted from my study time. Any show that we wanted to watch was available online and any of the football games etc were almost always on in the common rooms of our residence hall. I don't have the money to buy cabal. It's an extra that is unnecessary. While the internet is sometimes an extra, because of webassign, e-mail, and research etc. it's definitely necessary. Overall, I think state has a great IT department.
Nope
Improve strength of Nomad connections across campus.

Pretty comprehensive survey. Only thing would be including residence halls in the wireless effort at state. All residents already have to pay for resnet, so why not make the entire campus wireless so students don't have to purchase their own wireless routers.

More wireless routers need to be placed in wolf village and in the library. Many residents can not get a good signal in wolf village and are forced to connect via modem cable, which is limiting. The library, especially during exams, has an influx of patrons and the wireless runs extremely slow. It would be good to focus improving the library since so many student use the internet from that venue.
Improve the cable to Gold Residence Hall. Every 30 minutes, the cable goes out on all channels for about 3-4 seconds. While it doesn't seem that detrimental, when you're watching a show or a sporting event and something major is about to happen and the cable goes to fuzzes, it really makes you angry that you missed it. Apparently has been like that since at least last year from other people in the hall.
Not really, you guys generally seem to be on top of things, and I really appreciate that. I do not mind at all paying part of my tuition to keep yall operating. Keep up the good work so it stays that way!

I would like to have cable in my room but it is WAY to expensive.
Cable shouldn't be bundled with Wolf Village signup... and if that can't be arranged, at least make it as cheap as one person paying for it... my god, with four people it adds up to over $100 for what is very near basic cable...

I think office of information tech. is doing a great job. However I have noticed that even with a fast (10+ mbps) connection some video sites ,e.g. youtube and hulu, still load slowly. I would like that issue addressed if at all possible. Also concerning google apps at state, regular gmail does not recognize state gmail accounts, I find this annoying, especially if I'm trying to use gmail services not supported by NC State.

It would be awesome if the cable had HD channels- even if it was only the basic channels in HD.

Nice, fast internet.
Pass through ClearQAM channels on cable like Time Warner does. That would allow students w/ HDTVs to get HD w/o having to adjust an antenna and w/o the picture becoming unwatchable when someone walks by the room or the train goes by.
Increasing the distance that wireless internet is avialable from major buildings on campus would be helpful. Some areas on the brickyard cannot access the internet. Also, increasing the number of dorm rooms that get wireless would be nice (for example AFC can access wireless in the D building but not in the dorm rooms or in the lounges/kitchens on each floor).
You should think about setting up wireless connections to be available in a person's apartment.
It would be nice to have access to wireless N routers around campus for faster connections and better coverage.
cable is way too expensive!

I know you guys are getting more wireless up, and I understand how that could take along time and cost a lot; so thanks. I use wireless a lot all over campus, since I am in Computer Science, I use the computer a lot. Wireless access is imperative, so thank you.

I really wish the Nomad wireless system worked better in the dorms. I think it is ridiculous that the only place I can't get wireless access is where I spend the majority of my time.
Wireless in the tri towers (the dorm rooms) would be nice.
The internet connection quality is fine for laptops and web-using, but horrible for video games, xbox live especially. Please allow us to priotize the connection of video game playing network devices. The connection is so inconsistent and laggy.
Nope.
I must say that I'm very opposed to the idea of having mandatory TV services. I have a single room so I'm already paying more, and I don't have the room for a television so I won't be able to use this service anyway. I have felt that my quality of life has improved with the lack of this distraction. Even the friends I know who do own televisions don't watch television; they have it connected to their x-boxes and whatnot.
Internet tends to become very sluggish when the library is crowded; more access points should be installed to increase the quality of internet access when the library is busy
I have had occasional problems with the captive portal that is used to tie devices to unity accounts. I can still access the internet on a device that is not listed in the session manager, and sometimes trying to add or remove a device causes the web page to give a cryptic error.
I think charging students $90/semester to have cable in their room that they already have in the living room is a cheap, underhanded way of someone making extra money. I don't have to do this in my own home if I have multiple connections, I shouldn't have to at school...especially $90/semester.
It would be great to get wireless in the residence halls - sometimes, very rarely, we can access nomad, but it's very weak and pretty hard to get to.

I have had a lot of trouble getting my computer to recognize my ethernet resnet cord ever since I got Windows seven installed. Its been frustrating so I havent used resnet in two months
ResNet needs more wireless access points. There are a lot of places (especially in dorm rooms) where the wireless connection is weak or non-existent. More wireless access points would be extremely convenient.
I do not get ResNet in my room in Sullivan Hall and I don't know anyone who does get ResNet in the dorms. I think everyone should have access in the dorm. Also, in DH Hill library, the higher floors in the bookstacks get poor service and when the library is busy the internet is poor and slow.

the internet speed on campus is great but some classrooms don't have good wireless. I have a class in SAS, the brand new math building, and my classroom has no wireless service.
It would be great if we could improve the quality of resnet in the dorms -- I know about half the dorm rooms on my hall do not have ncsu wireless...also, the wireless in the library is pitiful, especially considering that is where a large portion of students study and work. So, let's get on that.

I think if somehow the cable was discounted, then I think alot more people would want to buy it. Sporting games are nice to watch on the television, but you are really missing out if you can not watch the game.
Can I come in anytime even if I just want to get a "check up" on my computer?

Keep up the good work =). A little more notice on scheduled service outages would be nice (email or just posted on the ResNet/SysNews website), in addition to the crawl shown on WolfBytes. On that same note, a system status page on the ResNet website would be great (for planned & unplanned outages/issues to be shown, etc).
I like the idea about recording class and having the video/audio (of the recorded class) posted online after the class
