ALERT: Before attempting
to complete any of these instructions, it is STRONGLY recommended
that you make
a complete backup of your system Registry. This will allow you to correct
any mistakes that you may make, or help to recover from any problems that result
from following these instructions.
NOTE: Please note
that ResNet cannot provide in-depth technical assistance to non-N.C. State University
students. If you are not a student, please contact your Internet Service Provider
(ISP) or anti-virus software vendor for assistance.
Removal Instructions:
BuddyLinks.Net (Adware-BuddyLinks):
- Reboot your computer in Safe Mode
- Reboot the computer
- Just before Windows begins to load, press F8
- Select Safe Mode
- When Windows starts, open your Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel window, select Add/Remove Programs.
- In the Add/Remove Programs window, locate and remove any
of the following items that may be present (this may vary depending
on what was installed):
- BuddyLinks
- PSDT Messaging Integration
- PSD Tools ChannelUp v1.0 (remove only)
- Close the Add/Remove Programs window.
- Open the My Computer icon.
- Windows
XP users: this will be located in the Start menu.
- Windows 95 / 98 / 98SE / Me / 2000 users: this will be located
on your desktop.
- Open the C: drive.
- Open the Program Files directory (Windows XP may
display a warning message; click to continue).
- Delete the following folder (if it's visible):
- Open the Common Files directory.
- Delete the following folder (if it's visible):
- Close the window.
- Click on Start, then click Run...
- Enter "regedit" (without
quotes).
WARNING: Editing the registry of your
computer could be dangerous. We strongly recommend that you make a
backup of
your registry before continuing. Check out Symantec's
Instructions for backing up your registry.
- Browse to "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-602162358-764733703-1708537768-1003\ Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
- Delete the "BLMessagingIntegration" Key
with a value of "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\PSD Tools\blengine.exe"
- Close Regedit.
- Open your virus scanner, and run a COMPLETE
virus scan on your computer. If your virus scanner definition files
are up to date, it should detect and successfully clean any additional
viruses.
- If you have a spyware removal program, run it and let
it attempt to detect and clean any spyware that has been installed.
- Reboot your computer.
