Windows 2000 Configuration Tutorial

Windows 2000 has all of the necessary software that you need to use your ResNet connection to connect to the Internet. TCP/IP is the protocol, or language, used by Internet Applications. This document describes how to set up Windows 2000 for TCP/IP access.

Make sure your Ethernet card is properly installed and your 10BaseT cable is plugged into the proper wall outlet.

Installing the TCP/IP Protocol

1 You may have installed the TCP/IP protocol when you installed Windows 2000. To check, go to the "Network and Dial-up Connections" Control Panel (right-click "My Network Places" and choose "Properties") and right-click on "Local Area Connection". Choose "Properties" from the menu.

2 If you've previously installed TCP/IP, it will appear in the list of installed protocols. If this is the case, you should skip to the "Configuring TCP/IP" section of this document below. If it is not in the list, you will need to install it.

To install the TCP/IP protocol,

  1. Click on the "Install" button.
  2. Double-click "Protocol."
  3. Double-click "TCP/IP."
  4. Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM if prompted to do so.
