GIS
Leadership Series Participants
We
have assembled, to the best of our ability, those of you who have
completed certain steps of the Five-Step GIS Leadership Model. We
are certain that we have omitted some of you who should be included
here. If you believe that you have completed the work for any of
the following workshops, please contact us via e-mail, so that we
can make the necessary additions. Mention when you took the workshop,
with whom, and where.
The
5-Step GIS Model
You receive a certificate upon completion of the following workshops:
Step I, a weekend workshop, involves completion
of Arc-Voyager and teaching one lesson to your students.
Step II focuses on Mapping Our School Site, a project
developed by Rita Hagevik. Using CityGreen, monitoring data and
placement of tree, plant, and ant populations – all are put
on a map within this workshop. Many schools are now devising their
own site maps, with their own special features.
Step III is an introduction to Beginning GIS, using
ArcView and CityGreen. Developing activities for your own classroom
use, a booklet is developed for all participants. Each week focuses
on an important environmental topic in North Carolina.
Step IV is Advanced GIS using ArcView. Individual
activities and a group activity are developed during this workshop.
Each week focuses on an important environmental topic in North Carolina.
Step V is a time for each of you to develop your
own project with the help of graduate students in the Center for
Earth Observation. Two days are spent in the computer lab; three
days are spent wherever you need to attain additional information
and sources for your project. The project is put on the school Website
to be linked to GIS Ed Site.
The
5-Step GIS Leadership Model
Step 1. You teach/help teach a weekend workshop using ArcVoyager.
Step 2. You teach/help with the Mapping Our School Site Workshop.
Step 3. You teach/help with the Beginning GIS Workshop.
Step 4. You teach/help with the Advanced GIS Workshop.
Step 5. You teach/help with Step 5 workshops, serving as a resource
person for those educators who are participants in the program.
After
you complete the 5-Step GIS Leadership Model, you can apply for
and receive 3 graduate credits, thus completing the first GIS course
from Dr. Hugh Devine. You can continue the other four courses from
the College of Natural Resources and obtain a GIS certificate from
NC State University.
Congratulations
