*CAUTION: You must stay out of the PHYSICS program or you run the risk of losing all of your data.

  1. You need to quit the program since the PHYSICS program we've been working in is for data collection only. Now we will be using the capabilities of the calculator. To do this you need to hit ENTER. A screen will appear asking if you would like to repeat the data. Select No and hit ENTER.

  2. The Main Menu will reappear. Arrow down to Quit and hit ENTER.

  3. The screen will say Done. To see the graph again hit GRAPH (located along the very top row of buttons). Note that the cursor no longer follows along the graph. You can still move the cursor by using the arrow keys.

  4. Hit TRACE. This put the cursor back on the graph and it will go to your actual data points. The x and y values for these points will appear at the bottom of the screen. If you want to get out of TRACE, hit CLEAR. If this doesn't work, try quit (hit 2ND and MODE buttons).

  5. Hit ZOOM. A menu like the one you see below will appear.

    • ZBox
If you select ZBox and hit ENTER the graph will reappear. The calculator is going to allow you to create a box around the part of the graph you want to zoom in on.

To make this box, put your cursor at the lowest left hand corner of where you want your box. Hit ENTER. Now when you move the cursor, the box will be dragged along with it. You need to go up and to the right to make a box. When you are happy with your box, hit ENTER. An example of what this box might look like is shown below on the left.

The portion of the graph which was in the box now fills the entire screen. You can move the cursor around using the arrow keys, but the cursor will not follow the graph. You can TRACE, but the cursor will only appear for data points which are shown on your selected part of the graph. If you want to return to the original graph, hit ZOOM. The Zoom menu will reappear. Arrow to the right to select Memory. A new menu will reappear like the one shown on the right. Select ZPrevious, hit ENTER and your original graph will reappear.

    • Zoom In
If you select Zoom In and hit ENTER, the original graph will reappear. Move the cursor to the center of the section you would like to enlarge and hit ENTER. The calculator will enlarge a section of the graph around where your cursor was placed. To zoom in more and more, you can continue to hit the ENTER button. At some point it will start to zoom back out until you return to your original graph. If you have only zoomed once, you can return to the original graph by hitting ZOOM, arrowing to the right to select Memory, selecting ZPrevious and hitting ENTER.

    • Zoom Out
      - If you select Zoom Out and hit ENTER, the original graph will reappear. Zoom Out works the same way as Zoom In, but it shows you the larger picture instead of the smaller picture.
* For further information about how to work with the graph, refer to Appendix C
