DataMate software is a program which comes loaded in the CBL 2 unit and functions as a multipurpose program that will run experiments using the CBL 2, a graphing calculator and a number of sensors. DataMate can be used with the following calculators: TI-73, TI-82, TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-86, TI-89, TI-92, and the TI-92 Plus. The CBL 2 automatically determines which calculator is attached and loads the relevant software.

In addition to "Loading the DataMate Calculator Software Application," the skill development activity below, "Getting Started With the DataMate Software," provides step by step instructions for using the DataMate software once you have loaded it on your TI-83 Plus calculator.

Getting Started With the DataMate Software

Loading the DataMate software into the TI-83 Plus

This skill development activity will focus on the use of the CBL 2 with the TI-83 Plus calculator.

Transfer the DataMate software program to your computer:

1. Reset the memory on your calculator by pressing "2nd" then "MEM" which is the + key. Then choose "RESET" which is 7 by scrolling down or clicking the 7 key.

2. Choose 1, All RAM then 2, RESET on the next screen. A warning will be displayed that says, "Resetting RAM erases all data and programs from RAM."

3. A screen will be displayed that says "RAM cleared." Press "ENTER" and the word "DONE" will appear on the screen.

4. Put the calculator in receive mode by pressing "2nd" then "LINK." Arrow over so that "RECEIVE" is highlighted then press "ENTER."

5. The calculator will display a "Waiting" screen. Press the "TRANSFER" button on the CBL 2 unit. The CBL 2 unit detects which calculator is connected and sends the appropriate version of the DataMate software to the calculator.

6. The calculator will display a "Receiving" screen. When the calculator has received the program, "Done" will be displayed on the screen.

Getting Started With the DataMate Software

The DataMate software program is now loaded into your calculator.

1. To run the DataMate program, click the "APPS" button and then arrow up or down to highlight the DataMate program. Press "ENTER."

2. Plug a sensor or sensors into the CBL 2 unit. If they are auto-ID sensors, the name of the sensor will be displayed on the screen. If the sensor is not an auto-ID sensor, on the main screen choose "SETUP." Choose the appropriate channel in which the sensor is located by using the arrow keys. Press "ENTER" and arrow down until the appropriate sensor is highlighted. If the sensor you are using is not shown on the screen, press 7, the "MORE" command, for an additional list.

3. Press the number next to the corresponding sensor to choose it.

4. When you are finished choosing a sensor, press 1 which is "OK" to return to the main screen and begin collecting data.
