These
skill development activities will introduce you to the use of the
Calculator-Based Laboratories 2, a hand held device for the collection
of data.
The
CBL 2 comes with a temperature sensor, a light sensor and a voltage
sensor, so you can begin using it the moment you receive it. In addition,
batteries, a six inch link cable, and a "calculator cradle"
are provided.
Graphics
of the components and sensors which
are packaged with the CBL 2 are linked on the left hand sidebar.
In
addition to the sensors which are provided with the CBL 2, an updated
cost and compatibility list is provided on the Vernier
web site.
How
is CBL 2 different from the CBL?
The "calculator
cradle" is
an improvement to the system, which allows the coupling of the CBL
2 and the graphing calculator together as a single unit. In addition,
the built in software, DataMate,
allows you to start collecting data immediately.
DataMate
and the CBL 2
The software,
which is packaged with the CBL 2 is called DataMate.
It is a basic informational software which will be used to run the
experiments using the CBL 2, a graphing calculator and a number of
different sensors. When the CBL 2 is linked to a calculator, the CBL
2 automatically determines the model of the calculator which is attached
and loads the appropriate version of DataMate.
How
to Use the CBL 2
The CBL 2 is
packaged in such a manner that it can be used within a few minutes
of unpacking! As you work through "Using
the CBL 2" you will see the ease and speed with which
data can be collected.
