Click on the image below to view a movie which will demonstrate a camera with a removable, compact flash card type storage. To stop a movie, click on it again.

You can transfer the images from the compact flash card to a computer via:

1) a cable and the software which comes with the camera

2) a compact flash card adapter which can then be placed in a laptop's PCMCIA slot (the card functions like another drive).

3) a compact flash card reader which is attached to the computer (the software comes with the reader).

Pros and Cons for Using Compact Flash Cards as a Removable Storage Media
Pro
Con

Can store hundreds of pictures on a single card, depending on memory size (8MB - 128 MB)

Since it is removable, when one card reaches capacity, it can be replaced with another.

It is a good storage medium for storing megapixel images due to its large capacity.

Camera compresses and records the image rapidly, less waiting time required between shots.

The cards are small, cameras that use them can be smaller than those that use floppy diskettes.

More expensive than 3.5 inch diskettes ($2-$7 per MB, depending on the capacity of the compact flash card)

Requires special adapters, if you want to download images directly from the flash card..

The cards are small and could be lost, if carelessly handled.
