Importing Video into iMovie
1. Open iMovie and choose "New Project" from the file menu or the menu image which appears on your screen.
2. Make sure the mode switch in iMovie is set to "DV."
3. Rewind the tape to the desired location and press the play button.
4. When the iMovie screen displays the video clip that you want to import to iMovie, click the "Import" button. When you want the clip import to end, click on the "Import" button again.
5. iMovie stores the video clips that you have chosen on a "shelf."

6. To add the clips to your movie, click on the eye and then click on each clip, hold down your mouse, and drag the clip to the "Timeline Viewer."

Note: To add multiple clips to the "Timeline Viewer," hold down the shift key and click on each clip you want to add to the "Timeline Viewer." The clips will be added in the order they were placed on the shelf.

7. The image to the right shows the "Timeline Viewer" with clips added.
8. To change the sequence of the clips in the "Timeline Viewer," select "Edit" then select "Select None."

9. Select a clip, hold your mouse down, and drag the clip to its new location. Notice that Clip 02 is now in front of Clip 01.

When you play the movie now, Clip 02 will now play first.

10. To view your movie, click the play button below the iMovie screen. An explanation of the controls is shown in the image to the right.
11. You can also view specific segments of your movie by dragging the arrow above the blue bar and clicking the play button.
12. The controls function a little differently when you are editing your movie. The image to the right shows a detailed explanation of the controls.
Deleting Video from the Timeline Viewer

1. To delete video segments from your video clips, click on the area below the blue bar where you want to begin cropping, hold your mouse down, and drag the marker to the spot where you want the crop to end. The image below shows a segment of video that is selected and ready for deletion.

Note: To select a small section to crop, hold down the mouse and click the arrow keys until the area to be cropped is selected.

2. Choose Clear from the Edit menu. The section you selected is now removed from your movie.

Note: If you change your mind about the deleting a specific section, choose Edit, then Undo.

Split and Replace Video Clips
1. To split a clip, select it by clicking on it.

2. Select the area to be split by holding down the mouse and dragging the marker to the spot where you want to split the video clip.

Note: To select a small section to crop, hold down the mouse and click the arrow keys until the area to be cropped is selected.

3. Choose Edit, then Split Video Clip at Playhead.
4. The video clip will be split into two clips. One clip will be Clip 01 and the new clip will be Clip 01/1.
Adding Video Clips Between the Split Clips

1. Click outside the "Timeline Viewer" to deselect all the clips. Click on the clip you want to move between Clip 01 and Clip 01/1.

2. Hold the mouse down and drag the clip to the area between Clip 01 and Clip 01/1. The image to the right shows Clip 02 as a shadow between Clip 01 and Clip 01/1.

3. Once the mouse is released, the clip is placed between Clip 01 and Clip 01/1.
4. When you click the play button, the video sequence will be played.
Extracting Unwanted Audio From a Movie

1. Select the clip from which you want to remove audio by clicking on a single clip and choose Advanced, then Extract Audio.

Note: If you want to choose multiple clips, hold down the Shift key and click on each clip.

2. The audio will be removed from the selected clips and the progress window to the right will be visible until the process is complete.
Extracting Unwanted Audio From a Partial Clip
1. Click on the clip on the "Timeline Viewer" from which you want to extract audio.
2. Choose Advanced, then Extract Audio.
3. The audio clip associated with that video clip will be highlighted. See the image below.

4. Use the arrows on either end to select the area of the audio track you want to keep.

Note: The lighter areas of the audio clip will be deleted.

5. Once you have selected the audio you want to delete, choose Crop from the Edit menu.
6. The audio clip will be removed.
