Description = Looking for an East Coast 7th, 8th, or 9th grade class to compare marine invertebrates in the mollusk, crustacean, coelenterate and echinoderm classifications. This would involve searching tidepools in your area and sharing data on size, shape, & color of found species.
Month = February 97
How_Long = approx. 2 months
Objectives = To compare and contrast the ocean life on both USA coasts.
Share = Over the internet, mailed videos, video conferencing (where possible)

Attention middle school science teachers!
I would like to connect with three other teachers from different areas of North America who would be interested in participating in an online student project during the spring of 1997. This inquiry-based project will NOT take an overwhelming amount of your class time, but will allow students to play the role of scientists, from the inception of relevant topics for investigation, to collaboratively designing experiments, to sharing data and drawing conclusions together. The idea is to simulate, as closely as possible, the activities that professional scientist are involved with, even including competing for funding for their experiment ideas.
Each of the four schools involved will have a turn at selecting a set of experiments from one of their student groups (a team of scientists). This winning project will then be submitted to the other schools, on my web page. The other schools will provide input on the experimental design and, after modifications have been made (via online communication) students at all schools will carry out the same set of experiments and will post their resulting data on the web page.
If you would like to see additional information on this project, a detailed description, calendar of activities, etc. can be found at my web site:

Electricity
Contact_Person = Meg Gregorcich or Virginia McFadden
Email_Contact = GREGORMJ@mail.milwaukee.k12.wi.us
Description = Using voltage meters, students will measure the electrical current present in potatoes,apples,lemons and oranges. Mass and freshness of each food item will be a variable. Reported and compiled data will be shared with all. Students will analyze data and conclusions will be shared by email.
Month = February 97
How_Long = 1/31/97-3/27/97
Objectives = Students will measure the amount of electricity produced by various fruits and vegetables. The project involves measuring, organizing, analyzing, communicating and interpreting data. Curricular areas include Science, Math, Lang.Arts, Computer literacy.
URL = http://www.csd.uwm.ed u/~ caberg/gregfut2.html
Share = Report/data forms will be sent to participating classes via regular mail. Later, students will email participants to share interpretations and conclusions.
