Hazardous Waste GIS Projects

Teachers from GIS/Hazardous Waste/Environmental Education consortia workshops have created activities related to the following projects.  Each project contains several activities that vary in knowledge and computer skills used.

Understanding Hazardous Waste
These activities assume your students have no knowledge of hazardous waste.  The activities are group oriented, involving research, presentation, and basic computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, and internet.  No ArcView needed.  These are activities developed for students to gain an understanding of Hazardous Waste.

Using ArcView to Explore Hazardous Waste
These activities assume students have a basic knowledge of hazardous waste and are familiar with ArcView.  These activities are interactive.  You can download an apr file if you have ArcView on your computer and the students can work with the data offline.  If you do not have ArcView, then you can access it online through the NCSU Libraries allowing students to manipulate the maps online, and then print the maps.NOTE: this function has not been implemented yet.
