Finding Open Lands
Jeffrey Brown, project manager
NC Center for Geographic Information Analysis

Description:

The One NC Naturally Conservation Lands Map Viewer is an online tool developed for state agencies and land trust organizations for a convenient display of lands that are conserved or open for recreation. This includes wooded areas along streams where no construction is allowed, state parks, national parks, game lands, coastal reserves, wildlife refuges, preserved farmland, and other permanently protected areas.

Preparing for the Session: Activities for Parents and Educators to engage in:

(K) What do you KNOW about this already?

What is the Conservation Land Map Viewer? What can you find by using this GIS tool?

(W) What have you LEARNED?

What have you learned about permanently protected areas in NC? How does GIS help manage these open places?

(L) What else would you LIKE TO KNOW?

How could you and your neighbors become a part of local preservation efforts? What are some things that you could do?
