GIS Live 2005
"Open Spaces - Wild Places"

Sessions Previews

Where am I?   Using GPS and GIS.
Rita Hagevik, NC A&T State University

Description:

GISLiveNC is the state of North Carolina's celebration of GIS Day. We join other similar events happening throughout the state. This teleconference "links" these events from Charlotte in the West to Greensboro and Raleigh in the Piedmont to Holmes High School in the East and then to other states and the world.

GIS Day is a grassroots event that features the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in our everday lives. Internationally, the event is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the Association of American Geographers, University Consortium for Geographic Information Science, the United States Geological Survey, The Library of Congress, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett–Packard, and ESRI.

Preparing for the Session: Activities for Parents and Educators to engage in:

(K) What do you KNOW about this already?

What do you already know about GIS? What applications does it have to your everyday life?

(W) What have you LEARNED?

What have you learned about how GIS can be used to help solve everyday questions?

(L) What else would you LIKE TO KNOW?

What else would you like to know about how you could use GIS to help answer your questions?
