David Slykhuis is a graduate student at North Carolina State University working on his Ph.D. in Science Education. He received his BA from the University of Northern Iowa in 1996 in All-Science teaching with a coaching minor. Before coming to North Carolina, he taught Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, and Physics in Pana, Illinois, which is a small town in Central Illinois. While teaching in Pana, he received his MS in Education with an emphasis in Physical Science from eastern Illinois University. His research interests lie in using the Internet to deliver curriculum to high school physics classrooms and comparing that to the traditional physics classroom. He is currently working on a project to determine by survey what teachers would like to have on the Science Junction web site in way of model teaching such as technology use or various teaching methodologies. David's family is very important to him. His wife Julie, a 4th grade teacher, has been very supportive of David since he has returned to school. They have a three year old daughter name Hollyn and are expecting a new addition to their family this summer. |
