Resolution to Change the Governance Structure of the Society
June 20, 2008
Whereas
Sigma Xi has suffered an erosion of active membership* that has crippled the Society;
the participation of active members in the governance of the Society is limited by the Constitution primarily to action through chapter delegates in Assemblies of Delegates;
the direct participation of active members* in the election of Officers and Directors is believed to offer a way to enliven the Society;
a means for recall of Officers and Directors by the active members is believed to provide appropriate power to the active members;
proposed amendments to the Constitution and to the Bylaws of the Society have been prepared, and these amendments are documented in Attachment A to Resolution to Change the Governance Structure of the Society and Attachment B to Resolution to Change the Governance Structure of the Society;
be it therefore resolved
that the Constitution be amended as prescribed in the accompanying “Attachment A to Resolution to Change the Governance Structure of the Society”, and
that the Bylaws be amended as prescribed in the accompanying “Attachment B to Resolution to Change the Governance Structure of the Society”.
