Criteria, Nomination Procedures, and Important Dates

Criteria

Each school may nominate one or more members of their science and/or mathematics faculties. The nomination for each teacher should be no more than 5 pages and should include

A. A brief resume

B. A narrative addressing the following qualifications and accomplishments:

  1. Demonstrates qualities of excellence in teaching

  2. Actively involves students in critical thinking and problem solving

  3. Actively involves students in the learning process

  4. Teaches an appreciation for science and mathematics

  5. Teaches science and/or mathematics at the middle (grades 6, 7, 8) or high (grades 9-12) school level in a public or private school in Wake, Johnston, Harnett, Franklin, Orange, Durham, or Chatham Counties

 

Nomination Procedures

Nominations should be submitted to the Sigma Xi Outstanding Teacher Committee by the published deadline (see important dates below).  Nominations should be mailed to the chapter administrative assistant.

Important Dates

Nomination deadline: March 20 each year.  Contact Chapter Admin Asst.

Banquet: Awardees will be guests of the chapter and recognized at the Annual Awards and Initiation Banquet.
