Five students will be inducted into the N.C. State chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists Feb. 2. The Society, which is the nation's oldest honorary society for collegiate mass communications, according to the Society's handbook, "admits as members only those persons who exemplify the dignity, personal freedom, and initiative that we believe are the hallmarks of excellence in collegiate communications."

WKNC's third annual Double Barrel Benefit, which took place in February, was named by Independent Weekly as one of its favorite shows of 2006.
In the "Rock and Roll Quarterly" issue, writer Grayson Currin characterized the concert as something "actually causing college students to come downtown."

WKNC 88.1 FM will be hosting a 40th birthday bash Nov. 10-11. On Friday, the bands Doco and SNMNMNM at Kulture in downtown Raleigh will be the attraction for the celebration. Saturday’s bash takes place over three venues. WKNC and the Lincoln Theatre will present the Sublime tribute band Badfish and special guests Doco and Skywire. Slim’s Downtown will host Transportation and Caltrop. Kulture will feature sets from Swiff, DJ Rousseau, DJ Tommy, DJ Surge and Brian San Diego.

The NCSU chapter of The Society for Collegiate Journalists is hosting a screening of Peter Weir's "The Year of Living Dangerously" Monday, Nov. 13, 6-8 p.m. in the campus cinema. Assistant professor Dick Reavis will host a discussion after the film. The event is free and open to the public.
