N.C. State Student Media received 12 national Gold Circle awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Now in its 29th year, the contest attracted more than 10,000 entries from student-produced newspapers and magazines at high schools and colleges across the country. Work published between June 16, 2011 and June 15, 2012 was judged in 34 magazine and 78 newspaper categories.

WKNC Program Director Bri Aab and Operations Manager Michael D'Argenio represented N.C. State Student Media at the National Student Electronic Media Convention Oct. 25-27 in Atlanta. Hosted by College Broadcasters, Inc., the convention is the only one dedicated exclusively to the interests of student electronic media outlets, including student radio stations, TV/video outlets, and Webcasters. As part of the educational mission of Student Media, their summaries are published so other students at NCSU can learn from the conference as well.

Due to predicted rain on Thursday, Student Media's Fall Living Expo has been rescheduled for Friday, Nov. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event, now in its second year, will take place on Harris Field outside Witherspoon Student Center.

Paul Williams, "Uncle Paul" to his fans, was profiled in the Nov. 11 Raleigh News & Observer. Written by David Menconi, the article focuses on the "Penitentiary Rock" portion of Williams' "Friday Night Request Rock" radio program, Friday nights from 8 to 10 p.m. Williams, who served as the station's general manager in 1993-1994, explained the program dates back to his original tenure at the station.
