Technician staffers win SCJ awards
Four Technician staff members, all members of the NCSU chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists, won individual awards. In addition, the staff won first place for overall excellence for papers published more frequently than weekly. The judges said, "Strong layout and presentation throughout editions. None of the editions looked the same, which means designs are fresh and layout staff is doing new things. Campus calendar and backtracks are good, useful page 2 features. Teaching about Service Learning through photography
With a grant from the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Foundation, the NCSU Student Media photography staff set out to teach students about service learning and have them use that knowledge to document a service learning project taking place in their community. After training young photographers in the basics of photography and explaining what makes a good photo, we were then able to explain to them service learning and allow them to become more aware of it in their community. Agromeck staffers win 11 national, individual awards
The staff of the 2007 Agromeck yearbook received 11 national Gold Circle Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association." According to CSPA, about 1,496 awards, representing 12.5 percent of the 11,959 entrants, were given in 75 categories. The awards were announced and presented at the Association's annual convention in March in New York City. The Agromeck was the only NCSU publication to win such national, individual awards, and NCSU was one of only two North Carolina universities that won awards, the other being Elon University. Student awards recipients included Matt O'Bryant, Austin Dowd, Chris Sanchez, Mark Fenimore, Brandon Wright, Josh Hines, John Cooper Elias, Mary Beth Hamrick and Danny Boemermann. Agromeck named finalist for top national award
N.C. State's student yearboook, the Agromeck, has been named a finalist for the Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker award, one of the top two national awards for college publications. Earlier this year, it was announced that the same book, the 2007 edition, edited by Brandon Wright, would receive the other national award, a CSPA Crown award. Agromeck, Windhover to receive top national award
N.C. State's student yearboook, the Agromeck, and its literary and arts magazine, Windhover, will be recognized with a Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association this coming spring. "Our students continue to produce some of the finest publications in the country, even at a school without a journalism degree," said Bradley Wilson, adviser to both media. "They work hard every day to document the activities of some 30,000 students and additional faculty and staff as well as to give them an outlet for creativity." CLICK HERE for more information.

Designer/photographer named finalists in national competition
The Associated Collegiate Press announced that a Technician designer and a Student Media photographer were finalists in the ACP 2007 individual competitions. Matt Moore, a sophomore in mechanical engineering, and Katie Graf, a senior in communication, were named as finalists for photography and design. In addition, ACP announced that the 2007 Windhover literary and arts magazine edited by Lauren Gould was named as a finalist in the national Pacemaker competition. CLICK HERE for more information.

WKNC, DJ named among 'best' by 'Indy'

Technician receives Silver Crown;
Agromeck staffers receive national recognition

Eight Agromeck yearbook staff members received individual recognition from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association as part of that organizations Gold Circle Awards. The North Carolina State University yearbook staff has been recognized by Taylor Publishing with an Award of Excellence honoring its yearbook design and coverage. The NCSU yearbook, the Agromeck, is featured in the 2007 Yearbook Yearbook. 'Technician' to receive national award

WKNC's third annual Double Barrel Benefit, which took place in February, was named by Independent Weekly as one of its favorite shows of 2006. SCJ to host film, discussion Nov. 13
The NCSU chapter of The Society for Collegiate Journalists is hosting a screening of Peter Weir's "The Year of Living Dangerously" Monday, Nov. 13, 6-8 p.m. in the campus cinema. WKNC to host birthday bash Nov. 10-11
WKNC 88.1 FM will be hosting a 40th birthday bash Nov. 10-11. On Friday, the bands Doco and SNMNMNM at Kulture in downtown Raleigh will be the attraction for the celebration. Saturday’s bash takes place over three venues. WKNC and the Lincoln Theatre will present the Sublime tribute band Badfish and special guests Doco and Skywire. Photographer , Windhover place third in competitions
Senior photographer Rob Bradley, a senior in Communication Media Studies, placed thirdin the Photo Excellence Awards sponsored by the Associated Collegiate Press. In addition, the Windhover literary magazine placed third in the Best of Show competition at the national convention held in St. Louis, Oct. 26-29. And several designers from the Agromeck yearbook and Technician newspaper were recognized in the best of student design.

WKNC helps to raise money for Habitat for Humanity
WKNC 88.1 FM was one of 16 North Carolina State University organizations that raised money for the N.C. State chapter of Habitat for Humanity by participating in the annual Shack-a-thon. Groups constructed shacks out of wood and other materials and spent the week living on the campus's brickyard to raise money and awareness for Habitat.

Business staff recognized at regional conference
Student Media advertising director, Robbie Williams, a senior in business management, was recognized at the regional Southern University Newspapers conference in Norfolk, Virginia Sept. 29. Williams, who hosted a roundtable discussion for first-time ad manager, was recognized for the best "adea" at the conference — bundling media.
"We are putting an emphasis on having the media work together to increase sales," said Williams. "We like to be able to go to clients and present information on all of the media and how a business can package the same ad for use on the radio station and in the newspaper, for example."
Seven students from the Student Media business department, which handles sales of advertising and sponsorships for the Technician, WKNC radio, the Agromeck yearbook and the Nubian Message, attended the conference.

15 students inducted into national journalism honor society
Fifteen students were inducted into the N.C. State chapter of the Society for Collegiate Journalists April 30. The Society, which is the nation's oldest honorary society for collegiate mass communications, according to the Society's handbook, "admits as members only those persons who exemplify the dignity, personal freedom, and initiative that we believe are the hallmarks of excellence in collegiate communications. The 15 NCSU students inducted were Rebecca Heslin, Clark Leonard, Haley Huie, Tyler Dukes, Greg Behr, Katie Graf, Kyle Blakely, Meghann Dominie, Robbie Williams, Tanner Kroeger, Nate Bullen, Win Bassett, Lauren Gould, Britt Hayes and Manisha Dass. Agromeck yearbook staff members win national awards
The staff of the Agromeck yearbook received four national Gold Circle Awards from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. The staff received a First Place Certificate in Yearbook Theme and Concept. Josh Bassett and Nathan Bullen received a First Place Certificate in Organization or Greek Spread. Designers recognized at national level
NASHVILLE — The Associated Collegiate Press awarded the Windhover, the literary magazine at N.C. State Univeristy, a national Pacemaker award, the highest award given by the ACP and often compared to the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism. ACP also awarded three N.C. State students national individual awards. In addition, seven N.C. State students were recognized and published in the College Media Advisers' "The Best of Collegiate Design." N.C. State Student Media Win National Awards
DALLAS — The Associated Collegiate Press and College Media Advisers announced at their convention in Dallas, Nov. 5-9 that two student media from North Carolina State University won national awards.The most prestigious of these was the Pacemaker award which N.C. State's literary magazine, Windhover, won. The Pacemaker is the highest award given by the Associated Collegiate Press. Since 1928, ACP's Pacemaker competition has been considered by many to be student journalism's highest honor.
