PROFESSIONAL STAFF

The professional staff serve to advise the media on all aspects of publications production, everything from how to avoid writing in passive voice to choosing the correct headline font to developing a training program for new disc jockeys. Staff members also coordinate all aspects of payroll and technology in the office with a budget of approximately $1million.

BRADLEY WILSON, COORDINATOR FOR STUDENT MEDIA ADVISING

As the coordinator for student media advising at North Carolina State University, Bradley advises the daily newspaper, the radio station, a weekly newspaper, a literary magazine, an online magazine and the yearbook. He is a frequent speaker at workshops worldwide on topics ranging from the ethics of digital photography to publications design. He is the editor of the publications for the national Journalism Education Association and active in local and regional associations to improve the quality of journalism education. He has received the Pioneer Award from the National Scholastic Press Association, the Medal of Merit from the Journalism Education Association, the Star of Texas from the Association of Texas Photography Instructors and the Trailblazer Award from the Texas Association of Journalism Educators. In 2006, JEA awarded Wilson its highest honor, the Carl Towley Award. bradley_wilson@ncsu.edu

JAMIE LYNN GILBERT, ASSISTANT COORDINATOR FOR STUDENT MEDIA ADVISING

Jamie Lynn is the assistant coordinator, placing her in charge of student radio station WKNC. She spent nine years behind the microphone in public and commercial radio, earning two Broadcast Excellence Awards from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for her work at CMU Public Radio. jamie_gilbert@ncsu.edu

KRYSTAL PITTMAN, BUSINESS OFFICE MANAGER

Krystal, a former student staff member in the business office, now manages accounts receivable including collections and invoices. Krystal was the recipient 2006 University's Awards for Excellence. She oversees the training of the student business staff, including display and classified advertising, and distribution of the newspapers. Krystal is also the first point of contact for getting or returning a key. krystal_pittman@ncsu.edu

MARTHA COLLINS, FRONT OFFICE MANAGER

Martha is usually the first person visitors meet within the Student Media. She manages the front office including all payroll and human resource functions for the 150 or so student employees within the Student Media. She also manages accounts payable and all ordering of supplies. martha_collins@ncsu.edu

 

FRED EAKER, SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR

Fred installs, maintains and troubleshoots technology in Student Media, including Mac and Windows clients along with Linux file servers and Web servers. With a bachelor of science degree in information systems and operations management from UNC-Greensboro, he was worked in the government and non-profit industries for six years. fred_eaker@ncsu.edu
