Adobe Contractual Licensing Program (CLP) FAQ

Q: What is the Adobe Contractual Licensing Program (CLP)?
A:
The Contractual Licensing Program (CLP) is a flexible volume software licensing program offered through Adobe. It applies a discount to all of an organization's Adobe desktop software ordering during the life of the CLP agreement — but with no further order commitment beyond that initial order.

Q: Can students purchase Adobe and Macromedia products under the new CLP agreement?
A: No, but students can purchase Adobe products for very special pricing at both the NC State campus bookstores and through Adobe resellers.

Q: What is Adobe Upgrade Plan?
A:
A plan that assures you access to all upgrades for your covered products during the life of  the Upgrade Plan. During the first six months of the CLP agreement, you may also order an Upgrade Plan for any previously acquired, current-version Adobe software licenses (as long as Adobe has not announced a new version).

Q: What are the requirements for ordering the Upgrade Plan?
A:
For software licenses acquired under the CLP, the Upgrade Plan can be ordered at any time. The only requirement is the license is at the current version.

Q: How long is the CLP and Upgrade Plan in effect?
A:
The CLP is effective from 05/01/09– 04/30/11. If the Upgrade Plan is purchased with a product, you are entitled to upgrades until April 30, 2011.

Q: What is an Uplift License?
A:
An Uplift license allows for your existing standard licenses to become concurrent licenses.

Q: Do the CLP licenses allow a customer to switch between Mac and Windows platforms?
A:
Yes. Adobe provides cross-platform (Mac or Windows) serial numbers when you order licenses through one of the programs, so it’s easy to switch platforms. You can also switch platforms for those previously acquired current version licenses you purchase in the Upgrade plan. Cross platform licensing only applies to these two platforms, not to other programs such as UNIX, Linux, and so on.

Q: Is media and documentation included with new software purchases?
A:
No. Typically, media is $20 -$25 for each title.

Please note: You do not need to purchase media for each license. For example, if you purchase 100 licenses of Adobe Acrobat Professional, you only need to purchase one (1) copy of the media.

Q: Does Adobe provide for home use rights?
A:
Yes. The primary user of the computer on which the software is installed may install a second copy of the software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable computer or a computer at home provided the software on the portable computer or home computer is not used at the same time as the software on the primary computer.

Q: How do I order Adobe software?
A:
Determine the following:

    • Product
    • Platform
    • Number of Licenses
    • Determine whether you want stand-alone or concurrent licenses
    • Determine whether you want to purchase the Upgrade Plan
    • Determine if you need to purchase media and/or documentation

Q: How do I acquire installation keys for purchased Adobe software?
A:
When you order Adobe software, Adobe confirms the license and will then send the installation key(s) to you in email.

If you require assistance with installation keys or media, please contact Software Licensing Management.

Please Note:  If you already own CLP licenses of a particular Adobe product and you purchase additional licenses of the same product, your current license key will work for the new licenses.

Q: What if I have additional questions regarding NC State's participation in the Adobe CLP?
A:
If you any additional questions that are not addressed in this FAQ, you can direct them to Software Licensing Management.
