ESRI Faculty Home Use
Q: Do faculty who use ESRI software acquired through NC State's ESRI Agreement have a right to install a copy of the software at home?
A: Yes. Faculty who have ESRI software installed on their university computer may install a second copy of such software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable computer or a computer located at his or her home, provided that the software on the portable or home computer is:
- a concurrent license that accesses the ESRI license server via the internet, or
- a stand alone license that does not require the ESRI license server (must have access codes to install and launch)
- used for educational purposes only. No commerical use is allowed.
Q: How do faculty acquire ESRI software for home use?
A: Faculty and staff can download ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 and ArcInfo Workstation 9.2 from the ArcGIS Download page. There is no charge.
For all other ESRI product requests, please contact Software Licensing. Be certain to identify the title and platform you are requesting.
Q: What if I'm in a remote location and do not have access to the internet?
A: If you need to run a concurrent license of an ESRI product and do not have internet access, you will be required to purchase an ESRI Hardware License Key. These keys are available in either USB or Parallel formats.
Q: How do I purchase an ESRI Hardware License Key?
A:
If you are faculty or staff, you may purchase the keys for $31.83 each by downloading the ESRI Registration/Keycode Request form. Once the form is completed, it can be faxed to Software Licensing at 919-513-1893.
Q: Can students purchase ESRI Hardware License Keys?
A: No. ESRI Hardware License Keys are available to faculty and staff only. Students are only licensed to run the concurrent version of ESRI ArcGIS Desktop and ArcInfo Workstation available to them at no charge from the ArcGIS Download page.
