Red Hat Cost Sharing Agreement
After our meeting August 3, 2007, the following was decided as the proposed breakdown of future Red Hat payments.
In the meeting, it was decided that instead of charging for per license use of Red Hat, we would shift to payments based upon agreed upon percentages. Any college or department that utilizes five percent or more of the total Red Hat licenses would be asked to contribute to the campus wide license. Any college or department utilizing less than five percent or individuals using single licenses of Red Hat would not be required to pay -- instead the payment for these groups and individuals would be covered by the colleges and departments who have agreed to pay. The goal, however, is that paying colleges and departments' support of non-paying users is not to exceed a total of ten percent.
Since usage and costs can vary from year to year, this group will meet annually to review costs.
It was also discussed about the possibility of changing the date on which these charges are due. During the time of the meeting, Red Hat charges were due in March, but due to renewal issues between UNC-GA and Red Hat, the due dates were moved to June. After further discussions with OIT's Business Services Department, it was agreeed that although OIT would pay the bill in June, we would not charge campus partners until the following fiscal year.
