Visitors to the Software@NC State web site who have javascript enabled are tracked using Google Analytics. Google Analytics collects the following types of information from users:

  1. Type of user agent (web browser) used, software manufacture and version number.
  2. Type of operating system
  3. Screen colors (color processing ability of the users screen)
  4. Javascript support
  5. Flash version
  6. Screen resolution
  7. Network location and IP address
     
    • Can include country, city, state, region, county, or any other geographic data.
    • Hostname
    • Bandwidth (internet connection speed)
  8. Time of visit
  9. Pages visited
  10. Time spent on each page of the website
  11. Referring site statistics
     
    • The website (URI) the user came through in order to arrive at this website (example: clicking on a hyperlink from Yahoo.com that took the user to this website)
    • Search engine query used (example: typing in a phrase into a search engine like Google, and clicking on a link from that search engine)
     

This data is used to optimize the Software@NC State web site for our visitors and search engines.  No data collected through Google Analytics when visiting Software@NC State will ever be used for marketing purposes. As well, none of the following personal identification information is ever collected when visiting Software@NC State:


  • Names
  • Phone Numbers
  • Email Addresses
  • Unity ID
  • Mailing Addresses
  • Social Security Numbers
  • Bank Account Numbers
  • Credit Card Information
