Publication Restriction - Sensitive, Classified, etc.

NC State University currently does not engage, as a matter of policy, in the conduct of research projects funded by sponsored agreements that contain reference to and as such portions of which are classified under various regulations. Many of our faculty are engaged in working with agencies on projects that are classified and those faculty maintain security clearances through the sponsoring agencies. However, the post-9/11 environment has made many previously unclassified projects subject to provisions that are either now classified or are being deemed sensitive or "future-sensitive". Additionally, as the institution endeavors to identify means to grow the research program, we must look to new markets where our research programs can excel. This website serves as a rough repository of information pertaining to a number of objectives including:
  • How to deal with DFAR 252-204-7000, a clause from 1991 that is now being incorporated into univeristy contracts regularly
  • How to deal with other restrictions or potential restrictions on publication or related
  • Educate ourselves on the implications of becoming a securied facility pursuant to the National Industrial Security Procedures and Operating Manual (NISPOM) via the Defense Security Service (DSS)
  • Build a foundational understanding of the subject to better communicate with our faculty and external constitutents.
Please direct all of your questions or concerns about this issue to Matt Ronning, Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Administration by e-mail to matt_ronning@ncsu.edu.
