Computer Loan Program

With the constant advancement of technology, hands-on experience and basic knowledge of computers is vital in today’s workplace. Staff members who lack this skill and knowledge are at an obvious disadvantage. As a staff development initiative, the NC State University Staff Senate fully endorses a computer loan program for NC State University staff. It is the intent of this program to put computers in the hands of those employees who need them most and provide them with an opportunity to develop computer skills that will be mutually beneficial to the employee and the university.

Eligibility in the program is initially limited to permanent employees in pay grades 59 and below. Employees meeting these criteria who are interested in participating must complete an NC State University Computer Loan Program Application, which will be forwarded to the Resource and Environment Committee of the NC State University Staff Senate for review where it will be approved or denied. Preference will be given to those applicants who have already received some basic computer training or who have access to computer training courses. If an application is denied, the Resource and Environment Committee will provide a written justification to the employee.

The Administrative Secretary for the NC State University Staff Senate will serve as program administrator for the computer loan program and will check out the equipment. Employees will be provided with training on how to set up the system and some basic operating guidelines. They will also be provided with a resource guide to assist them with computer operations. The computer equipment will be issued for a period of one year.
