NC State University Staff Senate Resolution On Faculty/Staff Tuition and Fee Waiver Policy Changes

Whereas, the North Carolina General Statute 116-143 as amended by Chapter 605, 1977 Session laws, provides for a waiver of tuition and fees for faculty and staff at any constituent institution of the University of North Carolina under certain conditions determined by the Board of Governors, and,

Whereas, the UNC Board of Governor’s October 12, 2001 amendment to their Regulations on Implementing Policy on Waiver of Tuition And Fees for Faculty and Staff Authorizes any of these institutions to waive tuition and fees for faculty and staff, and,

Defines "Tuition" as "the tuition charged for credit instruction, regardless of when the instruction occurs or by what means it is delivered", but allows campus policy to specify under what circumstances, if any, a student may receive a waiver for receipts-supported courses and,

also Defines "Year" as "a fall semester, spring semester, and the summer sessions that follow or courses taken as distance education", and,

Authorizes the Institutional President to issue such additional rules and regulations as may be required or useful for uniform application throughout the University of the tuition and fees waiver privilege, and,

Whereas, other UNC Institutions, including UNC Asheville, UNC Greensboro, Fayetteville State, and UNC Chapel Hill, allow Faculty/Staff tuition waiver for summer school courses, and,

Whereas, other UNC Institutions including UNC Greensboro and UNC Chapel Hill specifically include distance education classes in their Faculty/Staff tuition waiver policy, therefore,

be it Resolved, that the NC State University Staff Senate recommends that the administration of NC State University expand the Faculty/Staff tuition and fees waiver privileges to include summer session classes and distance education classes.

This resolution was unanimously passed on May 1, 2002.
