April 9th N.C. State Mens Rugby traveled to play Wake Forest. The Wolfpack started off fast with Senior Philip Burcal scoring the first try which was converted by Aaron Williams to put the pack ahead 7-0 four minutes into the game. The Wolfpack kept bringing the pressure and another try was scored by Matt Pace and with Williams' conversion the pack now found themselves up 14-0 at halftime. The Deacons came out with a lot more energy in the second half scoring three tries in the first 7 minutes putting themselves up 21-14. State's Dominick Goldston scored a try off of a long run and with another Williams conversion State tied the score at 21 even. The Deacons found a way to get ahead with a penalty kick making the score 24-21. Soon after the Deacons scored another try and with a good conversion, were ahead 31-21. With the time winding down the Wolfpack knew that they needed to add pressure to the Deacons. At the 66 minute mark Philip Burcal scored again on a powerful run to close the gap with a successful conversion 31-28. Wake Forest came right back with another try to make the score 36-28 with 9 minutes left. The Wolfpack started moving the ball down the field and Freshman Daniel Page scored a try at the 72 min mark to close the gap to 36-33. State regained the ball and Aaron Williams made a penalty kick off of a Wake Forest penalty, which tied the game 36-36. Wake Forest had an opportunity to gain the lead off of a penalty kick but the kicker kicked the ball wide of the goalposts. With less than 3 minutes left the Wolfpack moved the ball down the field quickly which caught the Deacons off guard, soon after Philip Burcal busted the ball through the try zone scoring the winning try, which was converted by Williams making the final score 43-36.
