General Workshop/Clinic Information
Workshops
-
Are FREE and led by our knowledgeable Outdoor Adventures staff. These workshops are intended to introduce and educate the campus community on a variety of outdoor activities and skills. These 2-3 hour sessions are a great way to try something new or further your current skill set.
Clinics
- These are similar to workshops, but due to the nature of the topic or activity (there may be transportation or materials involved) a $10 fee is charged to cover costs. These clinics are educational and experiential programs on a variety of outdoor activities and skills. These 2-3 hour sessions are a great way to try something new or further your current skill set.
Registration
- Is required for both workshops and clinics
- Workshop participants can register at Outdoor Adventures rental counter in the Carmichael Recreation Center Monday-Friday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
- Clinic participants must register in person at Outdoor Adventures rental counter in the Carmichael Recreation Center Monday-Friday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Full payment is due at time of registration - Cash or Check only (Make checks out to NCSU)

Open Pool Sessions
Where: Pool - Carmichael Gym
Never been in a kayak? Or are you trying to perfect your Eskimo roll? Join
us in the Carmichael pool where other aspiring paddlers will come to meet
and share their knowledge and skills. This is great way for you and your
friends to learn the basic skills essential to comfortably kayak on your
own as well as meet other paddlers. The Outdoor Adventures staff will introduce
you to kayaking equipment, the parts of the boat, paddle strokes, wet exists,
and help you perfect your roll. Participants will have adequate time to
paddle around the pool working on their newly acquired skills. These
open pool sessions are free with all equipment and instruction provided.
All kayakers are welcome.
Women on Rocks I
Where: Climbing Wall (3rd floor - Carmichael Gym)
Is rock climbing that “manly” sport you’ve always wanted to try but you never thought you had the strength to do it. Well think again! are women and they were once just like you. Come learn to climb with other women in a safe, comfortable and supportive atmosphere with Outdoor Adventures’ female instructors.
This workshop is geared toward novices and will cover equipment, knots, safety commands, and climbing technique in addition to the opportunity to climb multiple routes on the Carmichael Gym climbing wall. All equipment is provided and this workshop is offered free of charge.Women on Rocks II

The Women on Rocks series is back by popular demand. This workshop covers the same topics as the first one, but gives those who could make the first one another chance. Maybe your hooked from the first workshop and you want to get some more climbing in! Sign up at Outdoor Adventures today……this fills fast!
Rock Climbing Basics
Where: Climbing Wall (3rd floor - Carmichael Gym)
Do you want to be a rock star? Well, the rock climbing basics workshop is the
first step. This introductory workshop is great way for you and your friends
to learn the basics of indoor rock climbing. The Outdoor Adventures staff will
introduce you to rock climbing equipment, knots, climbing techniques, and safety
issues. Ample time will be allotted to get your climb on at the Carmichael Gym
climbing wall. This workshop is free with all equipment and instruction provided.
All first time climbers and beginners are welcome.
Climbing and Rappelling provides you with an opportunity not only get your climb on but to learn how to get back down. Join Outdoor Adventures as we familiarize you with the skills involved with climbing and rappelling, as well as show you the equipment needed to pull it off. OA staff will introduce you to the knots, equipment, techniques, and safety skills to get rockin! All skill levels welcome.

Did you know that a human powered bicycle is the most efficient form of transportation on Earth? This along with recent rising gas prices have helped popularize bike commuting. Join Outdoor Adventures for a bike maintenance clinic so you can keep your ride on the road or dirt. We’ll teach you the basic skills for basic repair and maintenance, as well as address any specific issues participants bring up. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes, however if you don’t own one, don’t worry, we’ve got some you can get your hands on!
