- Many services are free to currently enrolled
students of North Carolina State University. Some Career Assessment
Instruments and Psychiatric Services may require a fee. more

How long will I be able to see a Counselor?
- Students are usually seen on a shor-term
basis, determined by their concerns or developmental goals. Most
people find that a limited number of sessions, matched to their
needs, provides the focus and help they need with specific goals.
You and your counselor will collaborate in making the best therapy
plan for your area of change. more

What are some of the typical problems that bring students to the
Counselor Center?
- Our staff is available to help students gain
perspective on any personal problems. It can be helpful to talk
with skilled counselors about concerns with relationships, stress,
anxiety, or depression. Services include, but are not limited to,
crisis intervention, short-term individual counseling, stress management,
referrals, and medication. Couples counseling is also available. more info

Why see a Counselor? Isn't talking to my friends just as helpful?
- Confiding in friends and using family support
can be very helpful. The advantage of speaking with a counselor
is that she or he is trained and supervised in working with problems
faced by college students, is not personally involved in your life,
and can be unbiased in helping you to resolve problems. more info

What if I would rather see a Counselor in the Community?
- The Counseling Center maintains professional
contact with a number of Mental Health Care Professionals in the
area. We are able to work with students to identify a therapist
who works well with the student's concerns and accepts the student's
insurance. more

Can I receive Psychiatric Services at the Counseling Center?
- Psychiatric Services is one of the treatment
options available to you as a NCSU Student through the Counseling
Center. There are psychaitrists on staff which serve as consultants
to the Professional Staff and the students. Students wishing to
consider medication or students needing medication management will
first need to be seen by a Counselor. The Counselor will then arrange
for the evaluation by the Psychiatrist. more
