Curent (Early) Semester Withdrawal

A Semester Withdrawal will withdraw a student from ALL courses in a current or previous semester. All withdrawals for degree students are initiated through the NCSU Counseling Center.

If you are a Lifelong (PBS, UGS) student, please contact the Department of Registration and Records at 515-2572.

  • Current Semester Withdrawal (prior to the last day of the Official Drop Period in the current semester):

For withdrawal requests before the last day of the official drop period in a given semester, students may walk in to the Counseling Center during regular walk-in hours. These are Weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. except Wednesday, when the hours are 11 am to 4 pm.

Students should be aware that they will be seen as quickly as possible and that the Counselor will serve the role of explaining the process or answering any questions the student may have. The Counselor can explain any impact the withdrawal may have on the student's academic eligibility, financial aid, international student status, eligibility as an athelete, and progress toward degree.

Upon arrival at the Counseling Center, the student will complete the Withdrawal Application. When meeting with a Counselor, the student will receive the Withdrawal Clearance Sheet. The student must walk the Withdrawal Clearance Sheet through the appropriate offices and ultimately leave the form at office of Registration & Records in Harris Hall.

  • If you are not within the Raleigh area or otherwise unable to come in to the Counseling Center to initiate the process of Withdrawing from the current semester, please call the Counseling Center at 515-2423, M-F 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. You can also download the appropriate paperwork including an Off-Campus Withdrawal Application here.
