GLBT @ NCSU

“Of the two professors that I feel comfortable being open with, they haven’t been negative about my sexual orientation. However, it is
obvious that they are uncomfortable relating to [me] and my personal life in the same way they relate to their straight students and their personal lives. This makes me feel like an outcast in some ways.”

Transgender Information

We know based on national research that the transgender community suffers extreme harassment and discrimination.

At NC State, gender identity and expression are among the protected classes covered by University policy and practice. We are working on addressing institutional policies and forms, housing, student health and counseling, and the campus climate overall. On campus we have started identifying single-use lockable space restrooms across campus (see below), spending time discussing health (physical and mental) related needs, providing training and awareness through our Transgender 101 module, and offering programs throughout the year.

For detailed information about the Transgender community please visit the National Center for Transgender Equality website.
