Academic Integrity Multimedia Integrity Teaching Tool

Transformation of the Academic Integrity Seminar Series

In the past, the Office of Student Conduct has facilitated an academic integrity seminar series. The seminar has been replaced by a new program developed at Ball State called the MITT. The Multimedia Integrity Teaching Tool is a wonderful program that allows students to learn about academic integrity through a CD-ROM presentation. The following is a brief description of each of the MITT programs.

Full MITT

While working through the Full MITT program, students learn the impact academic dishonesty has on not only themselves, but on other students, faculty, and the university as a whole. The program takes approximately six to seven hours to complete and consists of thirty-six lessons broken into six modules:

I. What is Academic Integrity?
II. Forms of Academic Dishonesty
III. Risky Situations
IV. Who Gets Respect?
V. Doing Right: What's In It For Me?
VI. Where Are You Going? Now and In the Future

At the end of each lesson, there is a content mastery quiz. The student must pass the quiz with at least a 75% in order to receive credit for that lesson. The program will let the student know immediately after finishing the quiz if the student has passed or failed. If the student has failed, he or she will be given the option to repeat the lesson immediately or to come back to it at a later time. While the subject of academic integrity is a serious one, the MITT successfully presents the material in a number of ways that engage the student in the program and get them thinking more deeply about this issue.

Little MITT

The Little MITT is designed to teach students the same lessons as the Full MITT, but in a shorter time period. The program contains the seventeen most important lessons from the Full MITT, as well as one additional lesson entitled "Procrastination." Students are again required to pass content mastery quizzes at the end of each lesson. The Little MITT takes between two and three hours to complete.

Presentation MITT

The Presentation MITT is available for group presentations on academic integrity. This program contains the majority of the lessons covered in the Full MITT and includes two additional lessons, entitled "Procrastination" and "Learning It." There are no content mastery quizzes in this version of the program. It is a good tool for both a general overview of academic integrity and for a more in depth look at the subject, since the presenter can tailor the presentation to fit the needs of the group.

Availability of the MITT

The MITT is available for all students and faculty. It can be used for presentations or personal use. It can not be copied, republished, or redistributed.

If you are interested in using the MITT, please contact the Office of Student Conduct for information about checking out a copy or requesting a staff member or student to present the MITT to your class. If you want the MITT for a specific use, please request it in advance. We have a limited amount of copies so one may not be available immediately and a time limit will likely be imposed.
