DETAG & DETS
- Leslie provided some background information about the role of these two entities.
- Role of DETS: DETS serves to provide leadership for the whole Division in those two areas - distance education and technology. DETS represents the Division on many university committees and work groups, and on committees for other divisions on campus.
- Role of DETAG: DETAG serves as a conduit for information between DETS and the units.
3.

Focus for 2007—2008
- Measurable outcomes: being able to determine in advance what tangible projects do we want to tackle, and being able to say at the end of the year that we did (or did not) complete them, and with what degree of success.
- Visibility : unifying the Division further being making DETAG and it's activities more visible within the Division and to others on campus. Raise our profile
- Education: of each other, of Division, of campus, outside campus in the profession
5. Full Group Activities
- SIS (Student Information System): The new SIS is rolling out now. DETAG has already been involved in portal development, and will also help develop the new ExtraCurriculuar Activities module.
- ETF: DETAG has a very important role in the ETF process. Our next meeting will be to review and rank proposals. DETAG reps have two roles: advocating for the proposals from their areas; and considering the larger ETF picture in reviewing and ranking all proposals. Please review the ETF website soon; Leslie will send more information for our October 1 meeting.
- Technology Planning: Only a few more departments need to complete the Technology Checklist, which should be done by end of month. Leslie will be bringing data to DETAG for analysis.
- Technology Initiative Award: DETAG will review nominations and vote on a recipient. This will occur in March or April. DETAG may also review the current Award criteria and share suggested edits with PGC and Dr. Stafford.
- Resource Templates: These are items that units need to help them engage in better technology planning. DETS will develop and present to DETAG for review along the way. Some possible templates include: software inventory, Hardware Maintenance Plan, Budgeting Guidelines, and so on.
- Illegal File Sharing Initiative: Leslie is working with a group to address this issue for the campus. DETAG will help review material and possibly sponsor a workshop.
- Calendar/Email Transition: Coming soon; DETAG will help develop training.
- University IT Reorganization: A new CIO will be hired within the academic year. In the meantime, all the major IT organizations have been re-organized into one new unit called Office of Information Technology. This will have big implications for Student Affairs. DETAG can help disseminate information, plan for change, and train others as needed.
7. Subcommittees
- Subcommittees were described in detail so that members could consider where they might best fit.
- DETAG Series: This group will be responsible for organizing training for members and Division, possibly working with PGC. The group will put together two training series a semester. This subcommittee will be in charge of generating ideas for content and/or organizing presenters. The group will also be responsible for reserving the space for the training sessions. Feedback has been gathered from large staff to assist in guiding the group’s decision on what training to offer.
- Podcasting: This group will be responsible for coming up with ideas and writing scripts for several podcasts a semester. Another goal for this group is to create experts who then can share their knowledge about podcasting to others in the Division. Eddie and Leslie will serve as the technical experts for this committee. These will be pitched as the "Students First Podcasting" series.
- Newsletter/Blog: This subcommittee will be responsible for creating an electronic newsletter to be circulated once a semester. The newsletter will market the DETAG series and Podcasting initiatives as well as any other pertinent “geekie” information, updates about distance education programs and activities, highlighting the Technology Initiative Award, and many other updates on the topics of distance education and technology.
