As you are probably aware, it is a University expectation that all faculty include a statement on their syllabi regarding academic integrity. In an attempt to make that task easier for faculty, we have provided an example statement written by staff in the Office of Student Conduct as well as several example statements written by faculty members across NC State's campus. If you have a statement that you believe would be helpful to other faculty members or you need assistance in writing a statement, please contact the Office of Student Conduct and we would be happy to assist you.
When writing a statement outlining your expectations regarding academic integrity for your syllabus, you might want to include the following components:
1. Yours and/or the University's general philosophy about academic integrity and how it affects the community.
2. Information about how to find the University policies on academic integrity(i.e.: Student Conduct website).
3. Highlight any policies that are specific to your class assignments. For example, the expectation of individual work on homework assignments, requirements involving the use of specific sources for information, etc.
4. How you intend to handle violations.
We have included an example statement that includes the elements listed above. A large portion of this statement was taken directly from the Code of Student Conduct. Please feel free to use all or any portion of this statement in your syllabi.
