The Talley Student Center is named
for the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Emeritus, Dr.
Banks C. Talley, Jr. Construction of the building was initially
completed in April, 1972 with the addition of the three-story
Gallery of Art and Design (now the Gregg Museum of Art & Design) finished in August, 1991.
The portrait to the right is displayed in the Student Center's
2nd floor lobby. The plaque reads, "This Portrait is
given by Louise W. Talley, Sterling Talley Wheless, Banks
C. Talley III, and Mary Louise Talley to honor Dr. Talley
for 50 years of extraordinary service to North Carolina
State University. The Portrait was dedicated in 2003."

The interior of the Student Center is anchored
by the 2nd floor atrium space that features the main entrances
to Stewart Theater, a central double staircase, spacious lounge
areas, and the Ticket Central booth. To the North side of the
atrium is a new addition; the outdoor deck overlooking the courtyard.
Beyond the atrium are the North and South Galleries, both leading
to the central meeting location of the Student Center, the Grand
Ballroom. The Reservations and Events Management office is located
conveniently behind the Ticket Central booth on the North Gallery
side.
The main Information Desk is housed on
the 1st floor directly below Ticket Central, and is situated between
two TV lounge areas and the Cates Avenue and Courtyard entrances
to the Student Center. On either side of the double staircase
leading to the atrium you'll find the Union Activities Board office,
the Student Organization Resource Center, and the University Theatre
Main Office. Further past the Information Desk down parallel hallways
you'll find the Emporium Ice Cream Shop and C-Store, along with
an expansive dining area featuring Taco Bell, Lil' Dino's Subs,
and Celerity Line restaurants.
In the basement of the Student Center lies
the Wolves' Den, a popular student hangout with a Sports-Bar feel
featuring Pool, Ping-Pong, Video Games, and large screen Televisions.
At the start of Fall 2004, the Wolves' Den became the home of the
two pilot locations for the ITD Flyspace initiative; student collaborative
workspaces in a relaxed environment.
The 3rd and 4th floors of the Student Center
hold administrative offices and a number of student services,
including Parents and Family Services, Center for Student Leadership,
Center Stage, the Business Office, the Women's Center, University
Dining, Chaplain's Cooperative Ministries, Campus Activities,
the Dance Program, and Student Legal Services.
