Occupational Medicine / Medical Survelliance Program

Based on the type of work you are performing, the associated environment and the potential for hazardous exposure, medical surveillance may be either recommended or required for your job.

Exposure and/or tasks may include:

  • Respirator use
  • Lead
  • Organophosphate / pesticide spraying
  • Loud noise
  • International travel
  • Animal contact *

*The pupose of medical surveillance for personnel with animal contact is to minimize the health and safety risk of working with vertebrates (live or dead) to an acceptable level, whether in direct care with these animals and their living quarters or by coming in contact with their viable tissues, body fluids or wastes.

Exams are provided for:

  • Respirator use
  • Hearing protection
  • Diving physicals
  • Nuclear operator

FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Will I have to pay for these services?
No, but you need your supervisor's approval and must submit the required signed paperwork.

What days are these exams given?
Respirator, diving and audio exams are done on Tuesday and Friday mornings by appointment. Lab work and immunizations are done by appointment, Monday thru Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

How do I set up an appointment?
Call 919.513.0277 and speak to the Program Coordinator.

What type of report does my supervisor get following my visit?
Only recommendations for what is necessary to protect you while performing your job responsibilities will be reported. No medical information will be given to your supervisor.
