We know you are busy but, at the same time, very interested in your student's health. This section of our Web site is devoted to helping you quickly find helpful information. For more detailed information on any of these topics, simply visit our main site.
Confidential Medical Information
Although parents often feel it's unfair, we are unable to discuss anything relating to a student's health care--including appointments, billing, provider visits, lab test results, etc.--unless the student is under 18, has given written consent, or there is an emergency situation. Medical information is governed by FERPA and HIPAA laws.
Immunizations and Health History
Students should submit their “Report of Medical History and Immunizations” form immediately upon receipt of the form. (Students under the age of 18 must have a
parent or guardian sign the form.) See immunizations for details.
Health Insurance
At this time, we file only the student medical insurance plan. Upon request by the student, an itemized receipt will be provided to file for reimbursement from companies other than the student plan. You will need to verify that your plan has out-of-network benefits.
Fees
Most routine visits to providers, health educators, and counselors are provided at no charge and are covered by a prepaid health services fee.
Certain services such as prescriptions, annual physical examinations, x-rays, laboratory tests, and physical therapy services are offered at prices competitive with the community.
Fees may be filed with your insurance or paid at the time of service or charged to the student's account.
Student Health Pharmacy
The Pharmacy fills prescriptions from both Student Health providers and outside providers.
The Pharmacy accepts many insurance prescription plans and has contracts with a large number of insurance companies to file claims electronically. Payment is preferred at the time services are provided (cash, check, or credit card). Unpaid charges are transferred to the University Cashier and will be charged to the student’s account.
Wellness Resources for Students
Students will be making many decisions that will impact their health and their academic success at NC State. The Health Promotion department of Student Health assists students in the areas of nutrition, fitness, alcohol and other drugs, sexuality, relationship violence, and other wellness topics. The Counseling Center offers workshops, evaluations, and individual and group counseling sessions to assist students with academic and personal issues.
