The following are SHS guidelines for treating official visitors
and non-enrolled "students" during summer sessions:
1. Student Health Services will provide outpatient urgent care to participants
in university-sponsored activities such as camps, conferences,
and seminars. Outpatient urgent care is defined as any acute
illness or injury occurring while on campus or during a university-sponsored
activity. Illness or injury occurring prior to camp/conference
or while at home should be cared for at the time of occurrence.
2. Participants under age 18 will be treated only with parental
consent. Each minor participating in a university-sponsored
camp should complete and submit a signed consent/medical history
form prior to participation according to the University Attorney.
3. Event directors or coordinators should provide Student Health Services a list
of participants who are eligible and consent forms for minors
prior to the event. The forms and lists should be sent to Student Health Services'
Medical Record Department. Copies need to be on file at Student Health Services
prior to care. University sponsor must provide a chaperone to
stay with the injured. This person should be on the sponsor’s
staff and not a volunteer or fellow participant. Patient and
chaperone should report to the Student Health Services check-in and identify himself
or herself as a participant in a university-sponsored activity.
4. Charges for services rendered will be billed to the sponsoring
department or program. Charges may only be paid by the departments by IDTs and the person bringing the patient should be prepared to give us the contact person's name, and the FAS and OUC numbers for billing purposes. We cannot bill individual participants or their insurance companies. A statement of charges is provided
to the program/participant for insurance filing. A visit charge
will be $44.00 (effective May 19, 2008) plus any customary user charges incurred.
During the summer sessions Student Health Services hours are
8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and closed Saturday
and Sunday. For urgent care, the camper/visitor should arrive
at Student Health Services by 4:00 p.m. to assure adequate time to be treated. After 4:00 p.m., the visitor/camper will need to
go to a local emergency room or an urgent care center.
