If you have been a victim of sexual assault or rape, you may come to Women's Health (located on the second floor of the Student Health Center) and we will prioritize your visit. Our services are available to all female students. You may bring a friend with you, if you wish.
We will first ask if you want to press criminal charges. We will not try to persuade you in your decision, but will discuss different options available to you. If you do wish to press charges, evidence must be collected within 72 hours, and this is done at the Safe Center at Wake Medical Hospital. To preserve evidence, it's important not to change your clothes, shower, bathe, douche, or brush your teeth. Clothing worn during the assault should be saved in a paper bag or pillow case, and the location at which the assault took place should not be disturbed.
Our services include treating you for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, at no cost. We will also discuss other sexually transmitted infection testing available and order the tests, if you so desire. If you are concerned about pregnancy, we will discuss emergency contraception options with you. (Plan B is available at our pharmacy.)
We will review with you resources available on campus, including the Counseling Center and, if you would like to see a counselor, we will assist you in making an appointment.
It is our desire to allow you to get back the power in your life that you have lost from this event.
